Following our "Explanation of Characters in Speaking" course, this lesson talks about the five Chinese characters of the "Ge" Department: "[Ge 叕], 鞌, 、 , 鞈". These five characters are not commonly used in modern Chinese, and most of the 57 Chinese characters in the "Ge" department are shape and sound characters, so the content of this lesson is still boring. The details of the five words are as follows:
1. [Ge Yi]. Read zhuó. The explanation given in the Shuowen Jiezi is: "[Ge Yi], the car tools also." From the leather, the clanging. "Shape sound word. The original meaning is the car equipment. "Zihui Gebu": "[Gebu], the car is equipped." "It must be a car tool, but what specifically refers to the car tool, there is no conclusion, from the analysis of the word "叕", it should refer to the things used to connect on the car.
Note that this word is glyph-wise and easily confused with "辍".

2. Tadalum. Read ān. The explanation given in the Shuowen Jiezi is: "鞌, Ma Jing Also." From leather, from Ann. Xu Shen thought it was a ideogram. In fact, 鞌 is both a shape and a sound word and a ideographic word, the same as "saddle". The original meaning is saddle. "Jade Chapter, Gebu": "鞌, also as a saddle." "Urgent Chapter" Yan note: "Saddle so by the horse, take its peace also." The reason why there is an "an" in the "saddle" is because after having the "saddle", people are "settled" immediately. The "Explanation of Words" does not contain "saddle", and "鞌" is the same as "saddle".

3、 。 There are two pronunciations:
(i) róng. This is the pronunciation of the Zhonghua Book Company's Zhuyin edition of the Shuowen Jiezi, and the explanation given is: ", Takumi ornament also." From leather, mushroom sounds. "Shape sound word. The original meaning is a fine blanket draped over a saddle for decoration. Xu Kai's "Biography of the Shuowen Lineage": "The Miscellaneous Records of Xijing: 'Ma or jì (jì) as an ornament. "Ming Fang Yi Zhi "Tong ya instrument use": ", Sadakami Kanya. i.e. the mushroom, saddle decoration also. ”

4、 。 There are two pronunciations:
(i) tié. This is the pronunciation of the Zhonghua Book Company's Zhuyin edition of the Shuowen Jiezi, and the explanation given is: ", Jing Decoration." From the leather, to the sound. "Shape sound word. The original meaning is the decoration of the saddle. Volume 36 of the Shuo Gao quotes Li Jing's "Yunnan Zhiluo Zhuyi Customs": "(White) Saddle Mourning (Barrier) Mud." That is, it refers to the decoration of the saddle, which is cushioned under the saddle and hangs on both sides of the horse's back to block the dirt. It is "obstruction mud".

The Three Kingdoms Zhiping Dialect scrolls down: "But it is said that between the horses, Cao used a saddle to cover his head and went down the river." It is said that Cao Cao was defeated by Ma Chao and Han Suijun and fell into the water, and fled with a barrier to cover his head. The third fold of Ming Zhu Youyi's "Righteous Courage And Resignation": "The short armor and light robe can be light, and the saddle is small and red." (ii) diē. This pronunciation is from "Guangyun". Dedicated to the word "鞢", "Jade Chapter Gebu": "鞢, 鞢鞢, saddle." "It's the pendant or saddle wing under the barrier mud.
5. Tatsumi. There are three pronunciations:
(i) gé. This is the pronunciation of the Zhonghua Book Company's Zhuyin edition of the Shuowen Jiezi, and the explanation given is: "鞈, sweatproof also." From leather, chorus. "Shape sound word. The original meaning is the ancient leather breastplate. The "Khan" here should be written as "扞" or "捍", Duan Yujue's "Notes on the Interpretation of The Text": "This is used as a precaution against defending against it, and transcribing it to take error." ...... In addition to the original meaning, there are other uses:
(1) Obstruction mud. Wang Yun's "Commentary on the Interpretation of Words and Sentences reading Gebu": "Guangya: 'Anti-sweat is called the Dragon.'" "Beginner's Book": "Sweat prevention is also known as Sweat." 'Case: The mud cover is also this, and it seems to be a jiān (the thing that pads the saddle) also. ”
