IT House February 15 news, Microsoft has a comprehensive overhaul of the settings app on Windows 11, with a new sidebar interface, color icons, better navigation, integration bing for better search results, and appropriate dark mode. With the Sun Valley 2 update, Microsoft is planning to upgrade the all-new Settings app with some much-needed improvements.
The journey of the Windows Settings app began with Windows 8 nine years ago. At the time, it was called "PC Settings" and it was supposed to replace the classic Control Panel in a future version of Windows. With the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft added more options, and "PC Settings" was renamed "Settings".
Microsoft promises that it will migrate all the options in the classic control panel to Settings in the future. It's unclear when the migration will be completed, but we do know that the dashboard migration stalled for a certain period of time until its replacement was fully developed.
After the Creators Update was released, Microsoft decided to migrate some settings each year instead of full. With the release of Windows 11, this migration strategy seems to be back on the fast track.
In the 21H2 version of Windows 11, the Settings app has been overhauled, and Microsoft is planning to update it with additional improvements to align with the Control Panel.
Storage space
As part of Sun Valley 2, Storage has now been migrated to Settings and a new ui has been built on top of WinUI.
Storage Spaces is a feature that can help protect your data from drive failure by saving another copy of the file in the second drive that the user connects.
Now you can easily manage the feature directly from the Settings app, and the existing Storage Space page in the Control Panel will automatically open the above page.
Sustainability management through the Settings app
Microsoft is introducing a new section within the Settings app called Sustainability, which will enable users to optimize the energy consumption of their devices. Based on the results of the optimized scan, Microsoft will provide users with ecological suggestions to help the device save energy.
The Settings app will also include a menu to manage advanced Eco eco recommendations, but it's still unclear how this feature will work.
