Recently, a new Toyota patent has been exposed, interestingly, the patent is intended to simulate the exclusive manual shift mode of fuel vehicles on electric vehicles to increase the driving pleasure of electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles and manual transmissions are all unmatched combinations, but Toyota has different ideas. At present, Toyota has applied for 8 sets of patents in the United States, indicating that it will provide simulated manual transmissions for future electric vehicles.
The patents first appeared on the BZ forum, and Toyota filed an application with 2021, involving a variety of technologies, including simulating clutch pedals, simulating gear shifts, and a method that simulates torque flow interruptions for driving traditional manual combustion engine cars.
Here is the filing instruction for one of the patents: "Electric vehicles include shift levers and clutch pedals to simulate manual gear models ... The driver selects a gear in multiple simulated gears by operating the gear shift lever... The system calculates and simulates the corresponding power of the engine and can display the virtual engine speed. ”
The patent indicates that Toyota vehicles equipped with the system will offer three different modes, one that requires the driver to use both the clutch and the shift lever, the other without the use of the clutch, and the third mode, which requires neither the clutch nor the shift lever.
Toyota believes that clutches may be useful when parking, reversing or stuck in traffic, while in the third mode, these actions will be handled automatically by the system, so the car will behave like an automatic fuel car, rather than a traditional fixed-ratio electric car.
