TORONTO, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Governor-General Mary Simon announced on February 9 that she tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Simon said through her official account on online social media platforms that she currently has mild symptoms and will continue to self-isolate and rest for a few days.

Simon's husband, Whit Fraser, had also tested positive the previous day with mild symptoms. Simon and her husband thus began to self-isolate.

Simon said his experience with her husband shows that people have not yet emerged from the epidemic, but have made great progress.

She called on the public to remain vigilant, vaccinate, wear masks and comply with public epidemic prevention requirements.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has received three doses of covid-19 vaccine, confirmed on January 31 that he tested positive for COVID-19. Three days earlier, he had disclosed that one of his children had tested positive for COVID-19. After a week of quarantine, Trudeau reappeared in public on the evening of Feb. 7 to participate in emergency debates in the House of Representatives.
