New coronavirus infection, increasing the risk of various cardiovascular diseases! Nature sub-journal 150,000 patient studies

Studies published in the sub-journal Nature suggest that the risk of cardiovascular disease increases significantly within 1 year of infection with the novel coronavirus.

The researchers point out that not only people at high risk of cardiovascular disease are at increased risk, but also people without cardiovascular risk.

The researchers analyzed data on 150,000 cases of COVID-19 infections from 2020 to 2021. It was compared with data from 5.6 million uninfected viruses during the same period and 5.8 million people before the outbreak (historical control). The median follow-up was about 1 year.

The data showed an increased risk of 1-year cardiovascular adverse events (myocardial infarction, stroke and all-cause death) in people infected with COVID-19 compared with those who did not feel it. thereinto:

The risk of stroke increased by 52%, with an incidence of 4.03/1000 person-years;

The risk of transient ischemic attacks increased by 49%; the incidence was 1.84/1000 person-years;

69% increase in risk of arrhythmias; incidence was 19.86/1000 person-years;

The risk of ischemic heart disease increased by 66%; the incidence rate was 7.28/1000 person-years;

72% increase in risk of heart failure; incidence was 11.61/1000 person-years;

The risk of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy increased by 62%, with an incidence of 3.56/1000 person-years;

The risk of pulmonary embolism increased by 1.93 times, with an incidence of 5.47/1000 person-years;

The risk of deep vein thrombosis increased by 1.1 times, with an incidence of 4.18/1000 person-years;

The risk of pericarditis increased by 85% at a rate of 0.98/1000 person-years;

The risk of myocarditis increased by 4.4 times, with an incidence rate of 0.31/1000 person-years;

The association between COVID-19 infection and myocarditis and pericarditis, especially in young men, is new to the study.

The study corrected vaccination as a covariate. The risk of cardiovascular adverse events increases significantly regardless of age, ethnicity, sex, and risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and hyperlipidemia.

The overall results were also consistent compared to historical comparisons.
