Western experts are trying to analyze what French President Emmanuel Macron talked about during more than five-hour talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow the other day.

On February 9, the French newspaper Le Monde published an article pointing out that one option for easing tensions between the West and Russia is a genuine rejection of Ukraine's membership in NATO. The French reporter wrote that Macron may make a proposal in front of the Russian president that Ukraine will guarantee military neutrality. In particular, it is said that this status may be the same as that of Finland, which also shares a border with the Russian Federation and close relations with the West, and that it is not a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

In the article, the French journalist spoke of the proposal for the so-called "Finnishization" of Ukraine, although Macron himself, who flew to Kiev after visiting Moscow, flatly denied making this proposal to Putin. But the French president, in response to a question from Le Monde, confirmed that such a plan against Ukraine was acceptable and "one of the models."

Meanwhile, a representative of the French presidency said in an interview with French reporters that Ukraine did not want to hear anything about the prospect of Ukraine achieving military neutrality on the "Finnish model". In addition, Poland, as a member of NATO, is also firmly opposed to this plan.

That's why Macron doesn't talk publicly about "Finlandizing" Ukraine so as not to anger some of France's NATO allies.

At the same time, the Opinion of the French leader is that if NATO provides Ukraine and Moldova with an action plan to join the alliance, then Russia will take advantage of this situation to annex parts of the territory of the two countries and recognize the independence of these places.

In Ukraine, they reacted bitterly to Emmanuel Macron's visit to Moscow. The Kiev authorities believe that Macron and Putin have privately reached some kind of agreement that Macron does not want to publicly announce.
