According to Kyodo News Agency on January 20, six people (17 to 27 years old, both men and women) living in Fukushima Prefecture at the time of the Tokyo Electric Power Plant accident will file a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court, claiming a total of about 610 million yen (about 33.92 million yuan) for Tepco on the grounds that the onset of thyroid cancer in children is affected by radiation from the nuclear accident. According to the lawyers' team, this is the first class action lawsuit to investigate the causal relationship between the nuclear power plant accident and thyroid cancer in children. The plaintiff will formally sue on the 27th.

Kenichi Inoue, head of the legal team, said at a press conference: "All the plaintiffs suffered from cancer in their 10s, which caused difficulties in further education, employment, marriage, etc. Nearly 300 children in Fukushima have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer after the accident and should verify their relationship with exposure to radiation and provide relief as soon as possible. ”
