With the panic and the occasional local rebound of the epidemic, China's auto market has spent a difficult 2021. However, independent car companies have ushered in the raising of eyebrows in sales in the midst of hardships.
According to the latest wholesale sales statistics of domestic passenger cars released by the Federation of Passenger Vehicles, among the top ten domestic car companies in terms of wholesale sales in 2021, five independent car companies are on the list, occupying half of the country in one fell swoop. Geely Automobile and Changan Automobile ranked in the top five. Great Wall Motors, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Chery Automobile ranked seventh to ninth respectively. The remaining five seats were won by five joint venture car companies in Germany, Japan and the United States.
The data in the table shows that the sales of the five independent car companies on the list all increased year-on-year, in addition to Geely Automobile, the other four independent car companies increased by more than double digits, and Chery Automobile's increase was as high as 36.8%, thus successfully entering the top ten. Four of the joint venture brands fell year-on-year, and only FAW Toyota increased by single digits year-on-year.
The rapid development of independent brands has also made the annual sales of car companies enter the million club reach eight, at least one more than in previous years, and 2021 will also become the year with the largest number of million sales of car companies. The previous years with the largest number of millions of car sales were 2016 and 2017, but there were only seven. Among the eight members of the Million Sales Club, Great Wall Motors entered the club for the first time, and the other car companies were either regular customers or had appeared in the Million Sales Club.
Therefore, the past 2021 is undoubtedly a brilliant year for independent brand car companies, and under the condition that the car market encounters many difficulties, independent head car companies generally rise strongly against the trend, which is not easy. This may have a lot to do with the agile, powerful and flexible marketing strategies and offensives of independent car companies.
