According to enterprise investigation information, Zhuhai Meizu Technology Co., Ltd. recently applied for the registration of two "borderless automobile" trademarks, both of which are means of transportation in the international classification, and the current trademark status is pending.

In October last year, Meizu was revealed to have updated a large number of automotive engineering manufacturing related positions on the recruitment website, which was once considered a signal that Meizu was going to build cars. In response, Meizu Technology Public Relations responded: "The company is indeed reserving relevant talents in the automotive field. Yang Xueliang, senior vice president of Geely Automobile, said: "This is a misreading, Meizu does not build cars, only provides services for car companies." ”

However, Meizu's application for the "unbounded" automobile trademark seems to be intended to overturn Yang Xueliang's previous theory of "not building cars".

When Meizu officially announced its cooperation with Lynk & Co in June 2022, it plans to launch the Flyme For Car vehicle system, which may have been initially explored and verified by the cooperation between the two. In October, Geely officially acquired Meizu.

The outside world speculates that after Geely acquires Meizu, it is expected to use the latter's mature Flyme OS operating system to improve its own vehicle system lagging, cumbersome operation and other defects. However, since the formal completion of the acquisition, the results of the two companies in the vehicle system have not yet been shown.

However, only three months after this acquisition, Geely released a preview of a new mid-to-high-end new energy brand through official channels. According to current information, Geely's new mid-to-high-end new energy series award has three power forms: pure electric, plug-in hybrid, and extended-range hybrid, and the new series will adopt a new design language and intelligent configuration.

Gan Jiayue, CEO of Geely Automobile Group, mentioned in his New Year message on January 28, "This year, on the basis of new energy architecture vehicle manufacturing, we will further break through the 'vehicle operating system' and build a 'super intelligent terminal with a high degree of integration of software and hardware', which can link mobile phones, aircraft, satellites, etc. to achieve the interconnection of all things." This year, such 'smart terminals' will be introduced to the market under many brands of the Geely Automobile Group."

It seems no coincidence that Meizu, which is most expected to help Geely build a "smart terminal", applied for an automobile trademark at this time.
