Born in Shanghai in November 1930, Jin Caifeng, whose ancestral home was Yin County, Zhejiang Province, was admitted to the training class of the Xuesheng Theater Troupe in 1946, worked as a small student, and later transferred to the Dongshan Yue Art Society to play Danjiao, together with Lu Ruiying and Ding Saijun, known as the "Dongshan" Sanding Jia. In the summer of 1951, she entered the Yue Opera Troupe of the East China Opera Research Institute, where she received key training, starring in a number of traditional plays such as "Jade Hairpin", "Panfusov", "Yang Eight Sister Stealing Knives", "Picking Jade Bracelet", "Cai Lou Ji" and so on.
