Combing the Zhejiang elements in the Xinhai Revolution! The academic seminar "Xinhai Revolution and Modern Zhejiang" was held in Hangzhou

In 1911, the revolutionaries represented by Dr. Sun Yat-sen launched the Xinhai Revolution, which shocked the world, overthrew the Qing Dynasty government, and ended the absolute monarchy that had lasted in China for thousands of years. Zhejiang is an important source of the Xinhai Revolution, which was called 'the manufacturing plant of Chinese civilization' or the 'central point of civilization' in that year, and the revolutionaries in Zhejiang, such as Qiu Jin, Xu Xilin, Tao Chengzhang, Wang Jinfa, Chen Qimei, Zhu Zhixin, and Zhang Taiyan, are all well-known throughout the country..."

This morning, the 2021 Hangzhou Literature and History Forum and the Academic Seminar on "Xinhai Revolution and Modern Zhejiang" hosted by the Hangzhou Municipal Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang and the Hangzhou Literature and History Research Association opened in Hangzhou. More than 40 experts and scholars in the field of literature and history from Tsinghua University, Chinese Min University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences and other institutions of higher learning and research institutions gathered in Hangzhou.

"The Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang has its own characteristics, that is, Zhejiang has two revolutionary groups, the Guangfu Society and the League, and both revolutionary groups participated in the organization and leadership of the Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang. So, what role did these two groups play in the process of the Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang? Zhang Xueji, a researcher at the Institute of History of the Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences, said that existing treatises often intentionally or unintentionally highlight the role and status of the Guangfuhui and ignore the role and status of the Guangfuhui; the leading figures of the Guangfuhui, such as Zhang Taiyan, Xu Xilin, Qiu Jin, and Tao Chengzhang, are well known and well-known, while the important leaders of the Zhejiang League are rarely mentioned. This left an impression on everyone that the Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang had been led by the GuangfuHui from beginning to end, and had little to do with the Alliance.

In view of the current situation, Zhang Xueji thought it was necessary to re-explore the respective positions and roles of the League and the Restoration Society in the course of the Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang, in order to get as close as possible to the true face of history. Zhang Xueji believed that the Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang was divided into two stages, bounded by the Zhejiang-Anhui Uprising of 1907. Before the Zhejiang-Anhui Uprising, Zhejiang's revolutionary activities were carried out with the Guangfuhui as the main body, and the Alliance Association only played an auxiliary role, which was the most brilliant stage of the Zhejiang Guangfuhui. After the defeat of the Zhejiang-Anhui Uprising in 1907, the revolutionary activities in Zhejiang Province were carried out with the League as the main body, and the Guangfuhui played an auxiliary role. After 1907, it would be inaccurate to describe the history of the Xinhai Revolution in Zhejiang with the Guangfuhui as the core.
