Chen Yun, political commissar of the Central Military Commission's column, received orders from the Central Committee, which informed him to immediately stop the Long March and return to Sichuan for Shanghai and then to the Soviet Union.
Chen Yun's mission to Shanghai was

Chen Yun was a Shanghainese, could not speak Sichuanese, and was not familiar with Sichuan, it was a period of white terror, so it was most likely to attract the attention of the enemy, in order to enable Chen Yun to arrive in Shanghai safely, the party organization decided to send someone to escort Chen Yun out of Sichuan.

Xi Maozhao, a native of Yilong, Sichuan, and a fellow villager with Zhu De, was born in 1912, and at the age of 20, he joined the Communist Youth League, and then became a communist party, after which he successively served as an organizational officer of the Chengdu North District Committee of the CPC and a propaganda cadre of the Chenghua District COMMITTEE of the CPC.
In 1933,
Xi Maozhao was sent to Qionglai, Xingjing and other places to engage in underground activities, because of the betrayal of traitors, Xi Maozhao lost contact with the party organization, he continued the revolution alone, until 1935, he had contact with the party organization, and soon came to Lingguan Primary School as the principal.
The Red Army arrived
Before the Lingguan, Xi Maozhao mobilized the masses to lay a solid mass foundation for the arrival of the Red Army.

They got a good rest under the arrangement of Liu Bocheng's brother, and a few days later, Chen Yun said goodbye to Xi Maozhao and Chen Liang and went to Shanghai alone, and in June, Chen Yun came to Shanghai, met Pan Hannian, and they rectified the underground party organization in Shanghai.
Subsequently, Chen Yun took a boat to Vladivostok in the Soviet Union and then to Moscow to meet Stalin.
When Chen Yun arrived in Moscow, he told Stalin about the change of leaders of the Communist Party of China and the Comintern, and the Comintern expressed its appreciation, and Stalin also affirmed the Zunyi Conference of the Communist Party of China.
After Sending Chen Yun, Xi Maozhao was captured by the enemy on his way to pursue the Red Army, thrown into prison, and later successfully released with the help of the underground party, and in 1937, he went to Yan'an to study at the Central Party School.
In 1937, Chen Yun returned to Yan'an from the Soviet Union, in the crowd that welcomed him, he saw Xi Maozhao, very happy, the next day, he asked Xi Maozhao to talk in detail, learned about the situation after Xi Maozhao sent him away, when Xi Maozhao left, Chen Yun also gave him a pair of tweed zipper cotton shoes and a can.
Xi Maozhao later graduated from the party school and returned to Sichuan, where he successively served as secretary of the Yilong Special Branch of the Communist Party of China, mayor of Guanyin Township, etc. In this capacity, he continued to do underground work, in 1943, due to the whistleblowing of local tycoons, Xi Maozhao was wanted by the Kuomintang government, and in 1948, he was arrested by Kuomintang agents and imprisoned in Chongqing Zhadidong Prison.
In November 1949, Kuomintang agents massacred the White Mansion and the Zha di Dong Prison, and more than 300 Communists died on the eve of the victory of the revolution, and Xi Maozhao was among them.
After the liberation of Chongqing, for many reasons, Xi Maozhao was not included in the list of martyrs.
In 1981, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee issued a notice to urgently review the unspecified martyrs, and the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee began to check Xi Maozhao's political situation, and in early 1983, the staff found an autobiography written by Xi Maozhao, part of which was about escorting Chen Yun out of the river.
The news came out immediately.
Chen Yun was very concerned, and he entrusted his secretary to reply to the Organization Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China: In the spring of 1935, after the Red Army's Long March crossed the Dadu River, the Central Committee decided that I should return to Shanghai to restore the Party organization. At that time, I disguised myself as a primary school teacher, and the organization sent an underground party member who was the principal of The Lingguandian Primary School in Tianquan County to escort me..... Therefore, it can be concluded that Comrade Xi Maozhao was the comrade who escorted me from the Lingguan Hall to Chengdu and Chongqing... I believe that Comrade Xi Maozhao should be recognized as a revolutionary martyr and record his merits in accomplishing the important task of escorting me out of Sichuan.
Chen Yun's proof made the Sichuan Provincial People's Government attach great importance to it, and in 1984, the party organization officially posthumously recognized Xi Maozhao as a revolutionary martyr.
At the beginning of this year, Xi Maozhao's wife went to Beijing, Chen Yun was hospitalized due to illness, and afterwards, when he learned of this, he immediately called Xi Maozhao's wife: "Everyone is an old comrade, if you have any difficulties and requirements, please speak out."
