After graduating from the military academy, Liu Yongyao joined the army, not to mention his young age, but the fight was not ambiguous at all, because he was wounded many times and could not get out of the line of fire, so he was deeply affected by his superiors.
At the end of 1925, he was selected to study in Moscow, until he returned to China in 1927, and by October, he had become the colonel's regimental commander, and among the students of the Whampoa Military Academy, Liu Yongyao's promotion was not slow, but why did we rarely hear his name afterwards? After that, Liu Yongyao successively served as the director of the Political Training Department of the Training Directorate of the National Government, a professor at the National Central University, and when Chiang Kai-shek established the Fuxing Society, a secret service organization, Liu Yongyao also became an officer of the Fuxing Society and did some political work.

During the Liberation War, Liu Yongyao still did not lead troops to fight, holding a number of less important positions, in 1949, Liu Yongyao was appointed vice minister of national defense of the National Government, at that time, the strength of the Kuomintang and the Communists was very disparity, and it was not long before Liu Yongyao and Gu Zhutong fled to Taiwan.
After arriving in Taiwan, there was no war to fight, and Liu Yongyao was not a person who liked to fight, he quit the military circles and began to do some military research work, because his qualifications were placed there, Liu Yongyao also successively served as a member of the "Design Committee of the Executive Yuan" and a member of the "Design and Research Committee for the Restoration of the Mainland" and other idle posts.
