Jiang Yongjing, born on May 6, 1922 in Dingyuan County, Anhui Province, died in Taipei City on April 26, 2018, at the age of 96. Born in the Republic of China, he is an outstanding scholar of the history of the Republic of China.
His life went through warlord civil wars, war of resistance against Japan, and civil wars between the Kuomintang and the Communists, from Anhui to Yunnan, then to the northeast, and finally to Taiwan. From rural "landlords" to soldiers, from public servants to party history associations, he became a professor at National Chengchi University and became a well-known historian at home and abroad. The life from the turbulent and displaced predicament to the Kangzhuang Avenue can be said to be a portrayal of the times, and it is itself a history of the Republic of China.
His character, modest and generous, is a man of good fortune, acts freely, eats a lot, and is unrestrained.
His research is both "rigorous" and "clear" and "diligent". "Strict", rigorous examination, "Ming", clear narrative, "diligent", diligent in reading and writing.
His writings, incisive arguments, have led many scholars and inspired future generations.
Many of his disciples have become "scholars" who have inherited his teachings and ways of being human.
Scholars called him Yongjing Jiang Gong.
To sum up, he was born in the Republic of China, studied the Republic of China, and achieved remarkable results.

Lin Gongfa, Ph.D. in History, National Chengchi University, Honorary Professor of the Department of History, Fu Jen Catholic University, Editorial Committee Member of the Republic of China Historical and Cultural Society. His research expertise is modern and contemporary Chinese history, the Kuomintang civil war, archives and oral history, Taiwan's modern and contemporary history, and the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
