In 1923, Sun Yat-sen, with the help of Soviet advisers, decided to set up a military academy to train revolutionaries, when Guangzhou was the base camp of the national revolution, so many young people with lofty ideals came to Guangdong to join the revolution, and in 1924, the Whampoa Military Academy came into being.
When the news of the enrollment of the Whampoa Military Academy came out, the whole country was shaken, many people came to apply for the examination, in just a few days, there were more than 1200 people, and finally passed the examination, more than 350 people were admitted, in which the best score was Jiang Xianyun, and later he became the head of the Huangpu Three Masters.
Today we want to introduce the youngest of the huangpu phase I students, he was only 15 years old at the time, his name was Liu Yongyao.
Liu Yongyao is a native of Liling, Hunan, born in 1909, in the early years, he studied for several years in private school, and later entered primary school, in 1922, he was admitted to Beijing Chaoyang University, in that unpredictable period, the young Liu Yongyao also received an education in new ideas, he understood that the most fundamental way to save the country is to join the army, in 1923, he transferred to the army to study military, in 1924, he learned the news of the enrollment of the Whampoa Military Academy, immediately went to apply for the examination, was admitted.
After graduating from the military academy, Liu Yongyao joined the army, don't look at his young age, but the fight is not ambiguous at all, very brave, during the Second Crusade, he has been promoted to battalion commander, later, he was sent to the Soviet Union for further study, and became classmates with Deng Xiaoping, Zuo Quan and others.
Not long after returning to China, Liu Yongyao was promoted to colonel, and after the Northern Expedition, he became the director of the division's political department with the rank of major general.
So why was such a dazzling military star at that time so little known after that? The reason was that Liu Yongyao was transferred out of the army and began to engage in political training work, and in 1932, when Chiang Kai-shek formed the Revival Society, Liu Yongyao also helped Dai Kasa train spies.
After that, Liu Yongyao never returned to the battlefield, but instead did theoretical work wholeheartedly, he served as a professor at the National Central University, a professor at the Army University, and in 1945, Liu Yongyao was promoted to lieutenant general, this year, he was 36 years old.
When Chiang Kai-shek stepped down in 1949, Liu Yongyao was appointed vice minister of national defense, and soon after, he went to Taiwan with Kuomintang troops.
When he arrived in Taiwan, Liu Yongyao did not have any contact with the army at all, but instead concentrated on military theory research and national defense policy, so among the generals of the Kuomintang, Liu Yongyao was respected by everyone as a "Confucian general."
In his later years, Liu Yongyao devoted himself wholeheartedly to the development of cross-strait reunification, and in 1993, as the honorary head of the visiting delegation of the China Association for the Advancement of Peaceful Reunification, he came to Beijing for a visit and was warmly welcomed.
In 1998, Liu Yongyao died of illness at the age of 89.
It is worth mentioning that Liu Yongyao has a very famous granddaughter, she is Liu Reuying who has become popular all over the country by relying on a song "Later".
Liu Ruoying once recalled her grandfather, when she was a child, her grandfather taught her very strictly, did not allow her to use her family background to do things for herself, it can be said that Liu Reuying has such achievements after that, most of the reasons are her personal efforts, but her grandfather was very kind to her, and also repeatedly instructed her, hoping that she can contribute to the peaceful reunification of the two sides of the strait.
