According to foreign media reports, BMW is facing a class-action lawsuit in California. The lawsuit was filed in orange county district court in California on the grounds that the BMW X7's cup holder had a design flaw.
The problem is that when liquid spills into the cup holder, the airbag module cable located directly below the cup holder can be damaged, causing the airbag to work abnormally. Multiple plaintiffs have inadvertently spilled liquid onto the cup holder after the airbag module showed a malfunction. The replacement and repair of the module cost more than USD 2,000 (about 12,736 RMB), and BMW refused to bear this cost during the warranty period.
There is also a case that shows that after the cup holder is immersed in water, the vehicle stalls until it stops, and the driver cannot switch other gears again after switching P gears, and the vehicle is driving in the innermost lane of the highway at the time of the incident. BMW technicians identified that the cause of the failure was that the liquid damaged the gear shift mechanism, and the maintenance cost was 2900 US dollars (about 18467 yuan).
