The two brand new models have not yet been confirmed to be bydirection's official works, and the electric vehicle modification blogger @ Weidian New Energy Automobile Community on Weibo recently announced that the two cars are their recent modification plans. It is understood that the two modified vehicles will be completed and unveiled in January 2022.
Let's first review the spy photos of the two modified cars.
The first is a station wagon based on BYD Khan.
The new car is no different from the current Han EV from the front part, and the iconic Dragen Face design concept is still retained in the front of the car.
But to the side, the modified car in the spy photo adopts the standard crock tank car shape, and the rear has a strong sense of integrity, and there is no obvious trace of splicing modification. The rear window is relatively vertical, the rear of the car is very flat, and the visual is very stocky. Luggage racks are also installed on the roof, the wheelbase of the body does not seem to have changed, and the taillights may adopt a new design.
Next up is the roadster version of BYDHan.
Similarly, the wheelbase and size of the front and body have not changed. But overall, the convertible version is not much different from the front-facing rear-drive coupe such as the BMW 4 Series, and the proportions of the body are not uneven because of BYD Han's original model.
Since there is no shortening of the wheelbase, a larger size door is adopted on the side of the body, and after the window is fully opened, the bottom line of the window is connected to the front and rear lights, and the line is very smooth. The convertible mechanism is fully received inside the trunk.
For the shape of this sports car, the latest spy photos circulated on Weibo have revealed more information to us.
As you can see, in addition to the light pink body color, the roof also adopts a hard-roofed open-top mechanism, which is very beautiful. However, we can also notice that the new car still needs to be polished in the details, such as the seams of the open-top mechanism are too large, and the waist line is not aligned. It is believed that after further improvement, the new car will be a very eye-catching hard-top convertible GT sports car.
Of course, this car is only a modification from the Weidian space station team. However, according to my personal judgment, BYD officials will not launch a convertible version of the new car in the short term.
In terms of safety, after a car is converted to a convertible model, due to the change of body structure, the rigidity of the body will be greatly reduced, and the safety will also be reduced. This requires a huge amount of effort to strengthen the rigidity of the chassis structure, while increasing the weight of the body and increasing the huge research and development costs. That's why roadsters are all much more expensive than the hard-topped versions of the same model.
And not to mention that HanEV is a pure electric car. For an electric vehicle, most of the chassis is used to store the battery pack, resulting in no additional reinforcement of the chassis under the ride position. If BYD wants to build this convertible, it must first ensure the safety of the new car, and it will take at least several years to develop and test.
On the other hand, BYD will focus on the new marine network sales platform for some time to come, launch seagulls, seals, sea lions and other marine life family models, cruisers, landing ships and other warship series models, and will bring high-end luxury brands led by hardcore medium and large off-road vehicles and MPV models in the future. As for the Han EV's roadster, you may only look forward to seeing it in your lifetime.
But then again, if BYD can really launch the two models in the spy photo, it will be a huge sensation for the domestic market.
Recently, there was a car blogger on Weibo@SugarDesign drew an effect map of two spy photos modified cars. I have to say that whether it is changing BYD Han to a sports car or a crock tank model, it looks beautiful. The new cars in the renderings all use BYD's current existing design language and design ideas, Dragen Face's dragon whiskers, low wind resistance wheels, as well as chrome borders, moment tail lights and other elements are fully integrated with the new body shape, without any sense of violation. The graceful body lines are even more intoxicating.
