This suspicion has actually plagued Du Yuming for many years. As early as 1947, after the defeat of the Kuomintang in the Battle of Laiwu, Du Yuming suspected the identity of Guo Rugui, director of the Operations Department of the Kuomintang Ministry of National Defense.
He once denounced Guo Rugui as a Red Army, but when Chiang Kai-shek asked for evidence, he could not produce useful evidence, and in the end he could only try to convince Chiang Kai-shek to believe his suspicions with such words as "his sofa has patches" and "his work style is clean and incorruptible." But such a statement was obviously untenable, and Du Yuming was instead believed by Chiang Kai-shek to bring private grievances to work.
In the Battle of Huaihai in 1949, the large army led by Du Yuming was surrounded and annihilated by the Huaye Liberation Army, and Du Yuming also became a prisoner of our army. On the one hand, his failure was the result of his and Chiang Kai-shek's decision-making mistakes, and on the other hand, the achievements of "red spies" such as Guo Rugui.
Join the Communist Party
In 1907, Guo Rugui was born in Tongliang County, Sichuan Province, to a family of scholars. His father, Guo Langxi, was once the top of the Chongqing government and had the strength to lift Dengke. However, because the imperial examination system was abolished soon after, he lost the opportunity to enter the examination, and his dream was finally disappointed.
Guo Rugui grew up with him, and he could always hear his criticism of the political corruption and social darkness of the Beiyang warlords, so he was deeply affected and hated the Beiyang warlords very much.
In 1925, Guo Rugui graduated from high school and clashed with his father Guo Langxi in his future development. Guo Langxi hoped that he would study medicine at Tongji Hospital, while Guo Rujie was determined to "make a revolution" and was unwilling to obey his father's arrangement.
Finally, he secretly followed his cousin Guo Rudong, who had become the commander of the Sichuan Army, to Guangzhou, where he enrolled in the Whampoa Military Academy, where he began his military career.
At that time, it was the first period of Kuomintang-Communist cooperation, guangzhou had a very strong revolutionary atmosphere, and the relations between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were not as tense as later.
Therefore, as a student of the fifth phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, Guo Rujie was also able to accept the teachings of a political instructor who was a member of the Communist Party and was exposed to advanced Marxism and communist ideas. It was precisely because of this experience that Guo Rujie gradually germinated the idea of joining the Chinese Communist Party.
If you want to join the Chinese Communist Party, you must have an introducer. Through observation, Guo Rugui discovered that his classmate Yuan Jingming was a member of the Communist Party.
He quickly found Yuan Jingming and explained his intentions to him, but Yuan Jingming said that he must pass the test before he could join the Communist Party. Therefore, Guo Rujing could only wait for the test of the organization.
Soon, the "4.12 coup" broke out, and the Communists in Shanghai were hunted down and killed by the Kuomintang led by Chiang Kai-shek. Guo Rujie, who deeply abhors this evil act, also ushered in the first task issued by the organization.
Wu Yuzhang, then secretary of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, found him and Fu Bingxun, informed them of their early graduation, and issued an order to "go to Sichuan to lurk around the warlord Guo Rudong."
Wu Yuzhang handed over to Guo Rujie and Fu Bingxun detailed the content of the task and the preparatory plan, asking them to give priority to persuading Yang Sen to attack Wuhan through Guo Rudong. If Yang Sen insisted on attacking Wuhan, then they would have to persuade Guo Rudong to attack him. If this is not possible, then Guo Rudong must also be successfully persuaded to stay still when Yang Sen attacked Wuhan.
Obviously, Guo Rujie, as Guo Rudong's cousin, is the best person who is most likely to complete this lurking mission. However, after Guo Rudong lurked by Guo Rudong's side, he soon found that although Guo Rudong and Yang Sen were both warlords of the Sichuan Army, the relationship was not particularly good, and Guo Rudong's troops were not enough to attack his rear when Yang Sen sent troops to Wuhan, so the first and second tasks were basically impossible to achieve.
And it's true. Guo Rudong did not agree to Wu Yuzhang's first two suggestions, but only agreed that he would not move when Yang Sen sent troops to attack Wuhan.

But in fact, although Guo Rudong did not move in the army under his cousin Guo Rujie, he still privately sent envoys to hand over a letter of allegiance to Chiang Kai-shek.
Therefore, after Guo Rujie stayed with Guo Rudong for 3 years, he became more and more aware of the huge gap between himself and his cousin in political opinions, and chose to leave him to study in Japan.

However, the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan soon interrupted Guo's study trip to Japan. Single-mindedly trying to save the people, he gave up his studies in Japan and returned to China, where he entered the Army University and the Whampoa Military Academy. The principals of these two schools are Chiang Kai-shek.
Frequent wars prevented Guo Rugui from maintaining close ties with the Communist organization, and he had to pursue further studies all the way and join the War of Resistance Against Japan through the status of a student at the Kuomintang military academy.
Because Guo Rujie's joining the Communist Party was so hidden, basically no one knew that he was a Communist except for the top level of the Communist Party and the introducer. Therefore, in the eyes of the outside world, Guo Rujie has always been a Kuomintang member who is "rooted in Miao Hong".
After graduating, Guo was hired as an instructor in war history at the Army University, and later became the chief of staff of the Kuomintang Chen Cheng's 14th Division.
Because of his excellent combat command ability and many victories, Guo Ruzhi was highly valued by Chen Cheng and was repeatedly promoted. Later, after the victory in Wuhan, he was once the chief of staff of the Kuomintang 12th Group Army.
However, within the Kuomintang, Guo Rujie saw the corruption and darkness more clearly, and became more and more loyal to the Communist Party.
In 1945, as the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression drew to a close, Guo Ruju finally passed through Ren Lianru, a member of the Chinese Communist Party, and waited for the opportunity to contact the organization.
When he discovered that the connector arranged by the Southern Bureau of the CPC was Dong Biwu, Guo Rugui was very excited, and he was eager to restore his status as a Communist Party member and go to Yan'an to join the CCP's anti-Japanese ranks. But Dong Biwu already had other arrangements for him.
He believes that Guo Rugui's return to Yan'an now will not be of much help, but will continue to lurk within the Kuomintang in order to provide more valuable information to our party. Guo Ruzhen finally agreed.
From such a moment on, he became a "red spy" who had to conceal his identity and gain the trust of the kuomintang and communist high-level.
Guo Rujie's contribution
Facts have proved that the arrangements made by the CPC Southern Bureau and Dong Biwu are very necessary.
After the end of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, because Chiang Kai-shek tore up the "Double Tenth Agreement" and launched a large-scale anti-communist civil war, our Party also ushered in the most critical moment of liberating China.
Among them, Guo Rugui, who rose all the way up within the Kuomintang and became the director of the Operations Department of the Kuomintang Ministry of National Defense, made outstanding contributions to the final victory of our party in the War of Liberation.
While the door of the Kuomintang's top military secrets was open to him, the challenge guo rugui faced was not enormous.
