On the verge of Du Yuming's deathbed, he named a person to meet, and repeatedly asked him a question about the person he wanted to meet: "You tell me honestly, are you undercover in the end?" ”
The person who Du Yuming had to see again and ask him questions clearly after his death was Guo Rujie, who had served as director of the War Department of the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China.
Although Guo Rujie held an important military and political position in the Kuomintang and successfully received the appreciation of the Kuomintang top brass, he was an out-and-out comrade of the underground party of the Communist Party.
He joined the Communist Party of China as early as 1928, and later sent a large amount of operational intelligence to our party in the core circle of power of the Kuomintang, making great contributions to the smooth annihilation of the nationalist troops by our party in the liberation war.
The Thirteenth Taibao of the Civil Engineering Department
Guo Rujie is a native of Sichuan, and his ancestors were once a person in the late Qing Dynasty. The Guo family is a family of scholars, with reading as the fundamental development model.
But in his father's generation, the country's economic situation was clearly not as solid as before. But Father Guo still wants to study and take the exam, and finally be a high official who "helps the world" and "honors the ancestors".
It was a great pity that Guo's father was reading poetry books hard, and he was about to win a show talent, and the Qing court suddenly announced the abolition of the imperial examination. The lost Father Guo had to pin his good wishes on his son for "Toad Palace Folding Gui", so he named his name "Ru Gui", which means that you must "Toad Palace Fold Gui".
However, Guo's father's good wishes for Guo Rugui were not recognized by his son, and Guo Rugui not only felt that the imperial examination had been abolished and there was no hope of "folding Gui", but also changed his name from "Ru Gui" to "Ru Gui". Although Guo Rugui's attitude toward the imperial examination was very firm, he was very hesitant about whether he was studying engineering, medicine, or joining the army.
He told Chen Tingdong, who was admitted to Tongji University, about his concerns, and Chen Tingdong analyzed it for him: "Brother Ru, it is difficult to have no relationship politically, and saving the country through science and industry is an empty phrase. I see that the revolutionary situation in Guangdong is very good now, and you might as well go to Guangdong to do the revolution! ”
This analysis made Guo Rujie open up, and he finally made up his mind to join the army and apply for the Whampoa Military Academy.
I have to say that Guo Rugui's ability is indeed very strong. He not only graduated from the Fifth Phase of Whampoa and the Tenth Phase of the Army University, but also studied in Japan and attended the Japanese Army Non-Commissioned Officer School.
It can be said that Guo Rujie is a well-known "academic school" in the Kuomintang, and it is precisely because of his brilliant study experience that he has received high-level attention in the Kuomintang.
However, it is not enough to have a degree without ability. Another important reason why he was later able to be appreciated by Chen Cheng and Principal Jiang and became the thirteenth Taibao of Chen Cheng's Civil Engineering Department was his excellent staff and tactical ability.
During the Battle of Wuhan, Chen Cheng, in accordance with the suggestions of the German advisory group, prepared to build a circular fortification in the three towns of Wuhan and prepared to die. When they are tired, we will concentrate our superior forces and defeat them in one fell swoop! ”
At the meeting, Guo Rugui's plan was approved by other generals, and Chiang Kai-shek and Chen Cheng expressed great appreciation for him, and soon he became Chen Cheng's confidant, one of the thirteen Taibao of the Civil Engineering Department, and entered the power center of the Kuomintang.
Du Yuming's doubts
If Guo Rujie is a thorough party-state soldier, then he must be a serious problem for our party, because his ability and insight are indeed extraordinary.
The Third Department of the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China, also known as the War Department, is one of the most core departments of the Ministry of National Defense to study combat plans. Guo Rugui's transmission of intelligence to our party in such a crucial department can be said to be a tiger's mouth pulling teeth and going deep into Longtan.
Although under Guo Rugui's strong sense of interpersonal communication and disguise, the KmT top brass has not yet discovered his suspiciousness, he has been targeted by another person, that is, Du Yuming.
Once, Du Yuming visited Guo Rugui's home because of official business, and he observed the scenery in Guo Rugui's home and couldn't help but wonder. Because he saw that Guo Rujing's home was not only very simple, but even the sofa was patched. This was not only not at all like the home of a high-ranking Kuomintang official at that time, but also the life style of the Communist Party.
Therefore, he met with Principal Jiang that night and said, "Principal, I suspect that Guo Rujing is a co-spy!" Principal Jiang asked him why, and Du Yuming replied, "Among the generals of the Nationalist Army, I think I am already clean enough. But when I went to Guo Rujie's house that day, I found that his home was even simpler than mine, and even the sofa was patched!
This is entirely the work of the Communist Party, and I always wonder why the communist army can progress so rapidly before each battle, indicating that the Ministry of Defense has internal ghosts! After Chiang Kai-shek listened, he was silent, but then the matter was not resolved.
Not only that, at the time of the defeat and retreat of the Kuomintang, Guo Rugui personally resigned from the post of director of the Third Department of the Ministry of National Defense. Later, under the arrangement of Chen Cheng and others, he was transferred to the commander of the Nationalist Corps.
Death is not blind
Facts have proved that Du Yuming's suspicions are correct, guo Rugui is indeed a co-spy, but indeed has repeatedly revealed the battle plan of the Ministry of National Defense.
Later, after Du Yuming was captured at the Battle of Huaihai and spent ten years in prison in New China, he began to reflect on his life as a soldier, especially the defeat at the Battle of Huaihai.
He once said in the article "The Beginning and End of the Battle of Huaihai": "I was always uneasy, and I always felt that Principal Jiang and Chen Cheng listened to the manipulation of Guo Rujie, a little devil, and finally led to the final situation of the Nationalist army." But seeing that Gu Zhu and his peers agreed with his plan, I argued with him at this time not only to no avail, but also to lose the trust of Principal Jiang. ”
It can be said that this famous general of the Nationalist Army, who once commanded the second of the three major battles of the Nationalist Army, has always been so angry with Guo Rugui that he still has to look for him before he dies.
In 1981, when Du Yuming was already dying, he still wanted his family to find Guo Rujie, who had been treated by the commander of the corps after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and personally asked him: "I am going to die, you tell me the truth, are you a communist?" ”
However, looking at the dying Guo Rujie, although he felt pity, he still did not answer his question head-on out of the needs of his work, but only smiled at Du Yuming and did not say anything.
Today, perhaps Du Yuming has understood the meaning of Guo Rugui's smile before he died, but so what, whether Guo Rugui is a CCP agent or not is no longer important.
Later, in 1997, Guo Rujie died in a car accident at the age of ninety, and the Central Military Commission gave him a very high evaluation. And this outstanding CCP agent, who is known as the "white skin and red heart", will always be remembered by future generations.
