Toyota, as the world's auto giant, actually sought cooperation from BYD.
Recently, it was reported that Toyota will cooperate with BYD to launch a new pure electric vehicle at the end of 2022, which will be equipped with BYD blade batteries. At first glance, this news is still more shocking, after all, Toyota is the world's automobile giant, and BYD is only a car-making star that has been established for more than two decades, in addition to the BYD F3 once copied the Toyota Corolla in the design, the two car companies do not seem to have any relationship, but why do they suddenly want to join forces to build a car?
In fact, the cooperation between BYD and Toyota is not a whim, as early as 2017, the media exposed that Toyota bought a BYD Tang vehicle to return to China to study, in fact, Toyota purchased a number of different models of BYD cars, and many Toyota technical executives have test-driven this batch of models. After research, Toyota found that BYD's new energy vehicles are not bad, and then Toyota executives visited BYD's headquarters in Shenzhen for formal talks.
In 2019, Toyota and BYD have signed a joint venture agreement, decided to establish a joint venture company specializing in the study of pure electric vehicles, and in April 2020, the company was officially established, named "BYD Toyota Electric Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd." Each party holds 50% of the shares. In April this year, there were media reports that bysayed new energy vehicles built by BYD for Toyota have begun road tests, and according to this time node, it is not impossible for new cars to be listed in 2022.
There are many domestic new energy vehicle companies, why does Toyota prefer BYD?
In fact, Toyota also has its own small calculation, because Toyota has been focusing a lot of energy on hydrogen fuel cells over the years, but countries around the world are not interested in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and more are developing pure electric vehicles. This is limited by cost and technical strength, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are difficult to popularize for a long time.
But for Toyota, it has invested a lot of money in hydrogen fuel cell technology, and now wants to abandon the research on hydrogen fuel cells and study pure electric vehicle technology from scratch, not only in the heart, but also in time. In the past two years, Volkswagen, General Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other auto giants have opened up the layout of the pure electric vehicle market, and if Toyota re-develops pure electric vehicles at this time, it is obviously too late.
To this end, choosing a technically reliable partner to build together has become toyota's optimal solution at present. Compared with Volkswagen, General Motors and other car companies, BYD's technology in the field of pure electric vehicles is more mature, and the posture of being on the top will obviously not take Toyota to play, so BYD has become the best choice for Toyota.
As one of the earliest domestic car companies committed to the research and development of new energy vehicles, BYD's right to speak in the new energy market is absolute, not only is it the only new energy vehicle company in the world with the core technology of three electrics, Toyota is also eyeing BYD's hard power.
And last year, BYD launched a blade battery that subverted the industry. Toyota's eye is BYD's blade battery technology, and the high safety of blade batteries coincides with Toyota's concept after entering the TNGA era. In addition to technology, BYD's influence in China is also essential. For Toyota, it is always impossible to cooperate with an unknown Chinese car company, and the partner must have enough product recognition and word of mouth to make Toyota's pure electric vehicles unquestioned.
Since the beginning of this year, BYD has achieved a new historical record for six consecutive months in terms of sales, of which the sales of new energy vehicles account for more than 90% of the total sales, whether it is word of mouth or consumer recognition, BYD is unique in China.
For BYD, through cooperation with automobile giants such as Toyota, it can well show its strong technical strength, which is conducive to the improvement of BYD's brand image, so as to have greater influence and discourse power in the new energy market, and the cooperation between the two is completely mutually beneficial and win-win.
At present, it is certain that the new car launched at the end of 2022 is that this is a pure electric A-class sedan built only for the Chinese market, which will be equipped with BYD blade batteries, and it is also the second model of the bZ series after Toyota's bZ4X, and the price will be within 200,000 yuan.
Write at the end:
In fact, before Toyota, BYD and Daimler had established a joint venture company as early as 2010, called Denza Motors. In 2014, the first dextive 400 was launched, focusing on the 300,000 value range, with BYD responsible for the electric power system and Daimler developing components such as vehicle structure and chassis.
But the Denza car born with the golden key did not bring good market feedback, in 2015 Denza sales were only 2800 vehicles, and the cumulative sales by 2019 were less than 10,000, which is why many people have not even heard of Denza cars, it can be said that a good hand of cards hit.
Many people are summarizing the reasons for the failure of Denza Cars, in fact, there is only one reason, that is, there is no Mercedes-Benz three-fork star logo, but a newly designed logo. Toyota has fully absorbed the lessons of Denza Automobile this time, and the new pure electric vehicle jointly created with BYD has directly hung up Toyota's own "bull head mark", which will not follow in the footsteps of Denza.
