His father, Liao Zhongkai, became a strong leader of the revolutionary party; his mother, He Xiangning, stripped away the weak personality that Chinese women often had under the suppression of feudal etiquette. In June 1922, Liao Chengzhi was fourteen years old. On September 1, 1972, He Xiangning died in a state of distress. Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou, in order to fulfill her wish to "live with Mr. Liao Zhongkai and die in the same cave" during her lifetime, specially sent a special car to send Lingshu to Nanjing to be buried with Mr. Liao Zhongkai.
