The exhibition of the 25th anniversary of the opening of He Xiangning Art Museum and the 50th anniversary of he Xiangning's death

In order to commemorate Mr. He Xiangning's significant contributions to the Chinese revolution and the work of overseas Chinese affairs in New China, entrusted by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, He Xiangning Art Museum held the "Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of He Xiangning's Death and the 25th Anniversary of the Opening of He Xiangning Art Museum" from April 29 to July 3. This exhibition will exhibit 35 works of He Xiangning's fine art, 23 pieces of ink painting, 32 pieces of oil painting, 10 prints, 6 pieces of sculpture and other works in the collection, and will be supplemented by documents such as academic publications of the art museum, posters of exhibitions over the years, historical photos, physical exhibits, and media reports. The exhibition structure is divided into seven units, from He Xiangning's art and research literature to the 25-year development of the art museum; from the discussion of public space and art to the planning of academic research, a comprehensive review of the 25-year history of He Xiangning Art Museum.

He Xiangning Art Museum is a national art museum named after Mr. He Xiangning. Since its completion and opening in 1997, this simple and elegant public space has not only become a center for preserving, researching, displaying and promoting He Xiangning's art and its revolutionary spirit, but also planned academic special exhibitions such as "Modern and Contemporary Art History", "Women's Art Research", "He Xiangning and His Era", and "Overseas Chinese Art". In addition, the museum is also committed to the current artistic ecology, urban space, and even the output of humanistic scholarship, and strives to break through the cube of architectural significance, explore the value of public space and its own connection with urban space. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Mr. He Xiangning and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the He Xiangning Art Museum, he Xiangning Art Museum has planned this special exhibition with the help of its rich collection, showing the thinking, planning and practice of the museum in the past quarter of a century, and also commemorating this great woman.

1. He Xiangning's Hanmei Liujin Festival - He Xiangning's Art and Research Documentary Exhibition

He Xiangning's fine art works are the most precious collections of He Xiangning Art Museum, and the art museum has always taken it as its mission to study, sort out and display the excellent works of art in the collection. After 25 years of hard work, whether it is exhibition or academic research, the art museum has become the core institution of He Xiangning's research at home and abroad. This unit not only exhibits He Xiangning's artistic masterpieces and historical documents, but also presents the academic achievements related to He Xiangning in the past 25 years, forms an overall review of relevant research, collation and promotion, and also prepares for the commemoration of the 145th anniversary of Mr. He Xiangning's birth (2023).

Our Cause: Institutions, Events and Personalities over the Past Twenty-Five Years

The events of the museum since 1995 are not only the exhibitions and research of the museum over the past 25 years, but also the medium that evokes the memory of the museum. The Chronicle of Events uses simple text and selected historical images to compile the "Academic Chronology" of the Museum. We hope that the audience can gaze at the images and keywords in the "Annals" and can know the social and academic environment in which He Xiangning Art Museum has grown up in the past 25 years, the institutions and scholars it has cooperated with, as well as the people who have visited the art museum, that is, to tell the story of the art museum.

3. Multi-dimensional space: Discussion on public space and art

From November 21, 1998 to November 21, 1999, He Xiangning Art Museum and Shenzhen Sculpture Institute jointly held the first contemporary sculpture art exhibition. Since then, the project has been continuously planned, and by 2014, a total of eight major exhibitions of contemporary sculpture art with different themes were held. Among them, the first to fifth sessions were planned by He Xiangning Art Museum, and the sixth to eighth sessions were hosted by OCT OCAT Contemporary Art Center. The 8th Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition can be regarded as the direct intervention of contemporary sculpture art in urban construction, public space, and people's public life. The theme of its discussion has long spanned the boundaries of art, urban construction, art museum, architectural art, etc., and has accumulated a lot of valuable academic discussions in the fields of ecological city, public art, cultural community, cultural exchange, urban landscape, open art museum, etc. With a serious academic attitude, it seems that it can constitute a special research case, because it involves institutional system, financial sponsorship, art museum space, Specific practices such as community culture and even urban culture construction.

Fourth, as the planning of academic research

As an active promoter of national art museums and excellent culture and art, the museum has always paid attention to the current art ecology. The art museum spares no effort to excavate the creativity of the younger generation, strives to focus on the discussion of women's art themes in the study of art history and cultural life around "women's art", corrects the bias of related issues in culture and art, and pays attention to women's achievements in artistic creation outside of gender identity. With a clear exhibition planning theme, the art museum has gathered outstanding curators and scholars at home and abroad, including Wu Hong, Fei Dawei, Lü Peng, Huang Zhuan, Wang Huangsheng, Feng Boyi, Pi Daojian, Lu Hong, Li Gongming, Li Weiming, Yin Jinan, etc., and has formed a series of artist case academic research exhibitions with their academic vision and curatorial concepts. Among them, there are artist exchange exhibitions in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on regional studies; important female artists such as Zhou Sicong and Yu Hong on women's art; Wang Guangyi and Sui Jianguo constitute a series of famous contemporary artists. In addition, the "New Vision" series of exhibitions has become one of the most important display platforms for young artists. This unit aims to take the works of artists on related themes as clues, integrate relevant exhibition photos and academic documents, and outline the contemporary vision of He Xiangning Art Museum.

V. Wanchuan into the Sea: The Art and Survival of Overseas Chinese

The study of overseas Chinese art is not only an extension of the relevant he Xiangning historical research, but also a necessary academic concern as a unit directly under the United Front Work Department of the CENTRAL Committee. With different themes, such as Chinese identity, regional culture, cultural identity, etc., the art museum plans art exhibitions of different media such as painting on the shelf, multimedia art, and contemporary art in the form of solo or group exhibitions, and also plans art exhibitions in different regions such as Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States according to the division of regions. For example, continuous research exhibitions such as "Local Future - Cultural China and Overseas Chinese Young Artists Invitation Exhibition" (2013), "Heavy Pupil Body - Cultural China And Overseas Chinese Female Artists Invitation Exhibition" (2014-2015), "Elsewhere/ Here: The Third Overseas Chinese Art Sampling Exhibition" (2018), "Discrete and Convergence - The Third Global Chinese Art Exhibition" (2020) and other continuous research exhibitions are not only special cultural exchanges, but also provide a unique perspective for both sides to view each other. In 2019, He Xiangning Art Museum was transformed from the custody of OCT to a public welfare first-class institution directly under the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee. In the new vision, facing the future of the art museum, He Xiangning Art Museum continues to take He Xiangning art and its era as the center of academic research. At the same time, focusing on the categories of excellent women's art, overseas Chinese art, contemporary art, classical art, excellent traditional culture, etc., around the concept of "New Art Museum", we continue to hold academic seminars on different categories of art museum forums and special exhibitions, such as "The First Development Forum of He Xiangning Art Museum" and "Flowing Water Alpine Writing New Pictures - He Xiangning and the Academic Seminar of New China Beijing Painting Circle", and actively seek cooperation with peers and excellent art publishing institutions, respectively, with the Beijing Academy of Painting, the Nanjing Museum, Guangxi Normal University Press and others signed a long-term cooperation project.
