He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

author:Black sentence book

The end of suffering,

It's faith.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

On the afternoon of March 28, 1933, a young man wearing an old suit, short hair, and eight eyebrows had just walked into No. 9 Wufu Lane, Shanxi Road, The French Concession in Shanghai, when a group of secret agents suddenly rushed out of the shadows, and the young man was caught off guard and was immediately pressed to the ground.

The young man who was arrested is the protagonist Liao Chengzhi who will be told in this article.

After Liao Chengzhi was escorted to the old gate of the French Concession to capture the house, the concession agents held a leaflet printed on him with the words "Shanghai Anti-Imperialist Alliance" and asked him to honestly confess his identity.

Liao Chengzhi avoided the heavy and said calmly, I am the son of Liao Zhongkai, the founder of the Republic of China, and there is nothing else to explain, you have arrested the wrong person.

Hearing the phrase "Son of Liao Zhongkai", the secret agent was not surprised. After Liao Chengzhi captured this detail, he immediately came to a conclusion in his mind, and it seemed that there were traitors within the organization.

The secret agent saw that Liao Chengzhi refused to explain the key questions, and began to ask, what are you going to do when you go to No. 9 Wufu Lane, Shanxi Road?

Liao Chengzhi said, I went there to find the tea merchant Ouyang Chun to order tea, planning to transport it to the northeast to comfort the soldiers who worked hard to resist the war.

The secret agent listened and said insidiously, I am afraid you don't know it yet, before you, two "communists" have been arrested in Wufu Lane, they have confessed, Wufu Lane No. 9 is your contact point, you are here for a meeting.

Liao Chengzhi knew who the two people the secret agent was talking about, did they really rebel? In order to probe the truth and force out traitors, Liao Chengzhi said: Since you say that I am a "communist" and that I went to Wufu Lane No. 9 for a meeting, then ask those who "slandered" me to come out, and I am willing to confront them on the spot.

The secret agent did not know that there was deception, and immediately pushed the traitor in front of Liao Chengzhi.

As soon as Liao Chengzhi saw the traitor's appearance, his heart immediately calmed down. The concession agents were deceiving him, and the two comrades who were in close contact with him did not defect at all, and the traitor in front of them was called Wang Qiliang, and they only knew him, and the other side did not understand him, nor could they grasp the powerful evidence that he was a Communist Party.

That's a good deal.

Liao Chengzhi insisted that this person I had never met before, today was the first time to meet, I don't know what he said, but one thing is clear, what he said is all nonsense.

The traitor listened and said in a frenzied manner that this man's name was Liao Chengzhi, the secretary of the All-China Federation of Seamen's Federations, and the other two were arrested at No. 9 Wufu Lane, one named Luo Dengxian, secretary of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and one named Yu Wenhua, the uncle of Zhang Guotao, the commander of the Red Army, and they were all "communist elements" who had a lot of secrets and absolutely could not let them go.

When the traitor finished speaking, two people suddenly came out of the shadows. With experience in the struggle, Liao Chengzhi concluded that the two men were Kuomintang agents, and it seems that this arrest was secretly driven by Kuomintang agents.

This made Liao Chengzhi aware of the danger.

He knew that once he was taken away by Kuomintang agents and thrown into the prison in Nanjing, he was likely to be executed secretly.

How can we get out of danger?

Although Liao Zhicheng was only 25 years old at this time, he had a lot of experience in fighting in prison. When he was 18 years old studying in Japan, he was arrested twice for participating in the Anti-Japanese Grand Alliance; at the age of 21, he was arrested twice in Germany and the Netherlands for leading a strike of Chinese seafarers overseas, and he was imprisoned for half a year in a prison in Hamburg, Germany. This time, he had just returned from the Soviet Union to Shanghai, but unexpectedly he was arrested again because of the traitor's betrayal.

Because he had been baptized by the cruel struggle early, Liao Chengzhi appeared very resourceful when the danger was approaching step by step. At that time, he knew very well that only by passing on the news of his sudden arrest to his mother He Xiangning could he use his mother's huge social influence to rescue himself and the two comrades-in-arms.

But the problem is that since returning to Shanghai, for the safety of his mother He Xiangning, Liao Chengzhi, who is already a member of the Communist Party, has not lived with his mother, and now the Kuomintang will definitely block the news of his arrest.

At the critical moment, Liao Chengzhi grasped the enemy's eagerness to make meritorious contributions and skillfully held the enemy's nose.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

He pretended to compromise and "confessed" to the enemy detective that I would say it all. I know there's a guy who's a Communist, and I can take you to arrest him now.

The enemy detective thought that Liao Chengzhi had figured it out and was going to defect, so he escorted him to Guangyufang on The Lai Fei De Road that night to capture the Communists.

The enemy detectives did not know that there was no Communist Party at all in Building 8 of Guangyufang, where Liao Chengzhi was going, and that it was the residence of his mother, He Xiangning.

He Xiang saw his son being escorted into the house in handcuffs and immediately understood what was going on. After Liao Chengzhi engaged in the secret work of the party, he had an agreement with his mother, and in front of outsiders, the mother and son were called aunts and nephews.

When the enemy detective saw that there was only one woman in Guangyufang, he asked in a loud voice, Where is the Communist Party?

Liao Chengzhi replied to the question, passing by his aunt's residence, I want to come in and have a look.

He Xiangjing saw his son circling with the enemy detective, and said to the enemy detective very unceremoniously, why are you arresting people indiscriminately!

With that, a father and daughter walked in and stood next to He Xiangning. This father and daughter were He Xiangning's close neighbors, living at No. 7 Guangyufang, the father Jing Hengyi was a Shanghai celebrity, and the daughter Jing Puchun later became Liao Chengzhi's wife.

Jing Puchun later recalled: That night, I had already gone to sleep. The servants of my aunt's (He Xiangning) family came knocking on my door, and my father told me to get up and go to her house together. We saw two French patrols with a handcuffed young man in handcuffs, dressed in an old suit. I took a closer look and saw that he was the "nephew" that my aunt had introduced to me. In a moment, the young man was taken away. Before leaving, he whispered something in his aunt's ear. After leaving, my aunt said to my father, "I'm sorry for you, Mr. Jing, this is my son Liao Chengzhi, I didn't tell you before...
He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

After the enemy detective realized that he had been teased by Liao Chengzhi, although he was ashamed and angry, he had no choice but to watch this top-secret news leak out.

The next day, as soon as the news of "Liao Zhongkaizi Chengzhi's arrest" was published, public opinion in Shanghai was in an uproar.

With the help of the power of public opinion, in the early morning of March 29, 1933, He Xiangning called Chiang Kai-shek:

Xiao'er Chengzhi was arrested by a foreign arrest house in Shanghai last night, but he did not know where he was detained. Yu was willing to stay in prison with his son, but he did not want to leave foreigners in prison, and asked to be released to the Chinese boundary, that is, he would die in the Chinese border and not in the concession. Please repeat.

After this famous "rescue telegram" was sent, on the same day, He Xiangning met with reporters at his apartment and made a statement: Xiao'er Chengzhi was only 26 years old, and when min was seventeen (1928), he went abroad to Germany to study politics and military affairs, and only two weeks ago, he dropped out of school and returned to China (in fact, Liao Chengzhi had already returned to China to participate in the party's secret work, and He Xiangning deliberately said that the time of return to China was two weeks ago, with the intention of creating favorable conditions for rescue). I once asked him why he had returned, but he said that the country was in trouble and what was the use of studying, so he returned to China to participate in the work of resisting Japan and saving the country. I am very proud of my aspirations, and after he arrived in Shanghai, he was indeed enthusiastic about the anti-Japanese work. Not last night's sudden arrest. I am here, I could have been released on bail, but Ya did not want to do it, resigned to fate, and let him handle the ear...

At the same time that He Xiangning repeatedly launched a public opinion war, Heavyweights such as Song Qingling, Yang Xingfo, and Liu Yazi joined the rescue camp.

Song Qingling, Yang Xingfo, and Liu Yazi agreed that the top priority in rescuing Chengzhi was to hire a barrister to appear in court to defend and uphold justice.

He Xiangning asked, which barrister can be trusted?

Yang Xingfo said, Barrister Wu Kaisheng.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

At exactly 2 p.m. on March 21, the "Second Branch of the High School" on North Sichuan Road announced the opening of the trial, and Barrister Wu Kaisheng first played the sadness card, and in the courtroom, he said earnestly: Liao Gongzi is the heir of the martyr Mr. Zhongkai, and only this son, since his arrest, his mother, Member He, has missed abnormally, causing the recurrence of old diseases, and yesterday he was in a coma once, and now he is still bedridden and weeping. Can the Party have a special person, and its heirs are involved in this, can they not bear it?

Then, Wu Kaisheng seized on the weakness of the traitor Wang Qiliang and refuted this person on the spot: Wang Qiliang falsely accused Liao Gongzi because he had a personal grudge with Liao Gongzi economically. Wang Qiliang's empty mouth has no evidence, can he testify? Only with ample evidence can it be convincing. Today, Wang Qiliang's testimony alone is unsubstantiated and untrustworthy.

At 5 p.m., the president of the court announced an adjournment of the trial because there was no evidence to convict the court, and then handed Liao Chengzhi over to the Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Wu Kaishengshengsheng was afraid that the Kuomintang would take the opportunity to secretly escort Liao Chengzhi to Nanjing, and after the trial, he instructed the driver to drive closely with the red car escorting Liao Chengzhi. After making sure that Liao Chengzhi had been escorted into the "Municipal Public Security Bureau," Wu Kaisheng made a concrete effort and directly broke into the office of the director of the "Municipal Public Security Bureau."

Seeing Director Wen, Wu Kaisheng said quite forcefully that yesterday, Committee Member He had already expressed his position to Mayor Wu Tiecheng, either releasing Liao Gongzi or arresting her together. As far as I know, the Nanjing side has issued instructions to Mayor Wu Tiecheng to "release people." Now, I ask Director Wen to call Mayor Wu Tiecheng to confirm the matter.

Under pressure, director Wen had no choice but to call Wu Tiecheng.

Wu Tiecheng could not hide, so he finally stated that Liao Chengzhi could "blame" for his release, but Luo Dengxian and Yu Wenhua were still in custody.

Wu Kaisheng said on the spot that it was up to me and Mr. Liu Yazi to "pay the responsibility".

The so-called "liability", that is, the guarantor is responsible for ensuring that the defendant is on call after bail. If the defendant escapes, the guarantor will be punished by law.

At this point, Liao Chengzhi was finally rescued.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

During Liao's revolutionary career, his arrest in 1933 was his fifth imprisonment. Because the environment of the struggle at that time was very cruel, in prison, he was ready to sacrifice for the revolutionary cause, and there was a poem inscribed in prison to testify:

The cold wind sweeps away the leaves and smoke the desert, and the dry bones and desolate graves look at the soul;

The iron window fluttered with snow and wind, smiling and looking at the Jinling Emperor Starfall.

The neck bone of the teenager is sonorous, bathing three times to be looped;

The heroic soul goes straight up to the Ninth Heaven and invites his fellow robes to drink alcohol;

When the Ninth Patrol Jade Cup was about to end, Fang caught the people and thief and paid the cannon branding.

After his release from prison, in order to avoid the re-anxiety of his bedridden mother, Liao Chengzhi guarded his mother for several months in front of the hospital bed. However, during these months, sad news followed, first Luo Dengxian, Yu Wenhua, who had been arrested on the same day as himself, and Chen Geng, who had been arrested earlier, to Nanjing, where his life and death were unknown; then Yang Xingfo, who had actively rescued himself, fell under the guns of Kuomintang agents; and then Luo Dengxian was heroic and unyielding and sacrificed at Nanjing Yuhuatai...

A true warrior, dare to face the bleak life, dare to face the dripping blood.

In 1933, Liao Chengzhi put into practice this famous saying of Lu Xun.

In August of that year, he resolutely bid farewell to his mother and embarked on a glorious road full of suffering.

Before leaving, he left three letters, one to his mother He Xiangning, one to Liu Yazi, and one to his fiancée Jing Puchun.

The letter written to Liu Yazi is full of deep and simple revolutionary feelings, which is particularly touching-

Mr. Yazi:

I now have to leave my elderly and sickly mother behind again. In the spring of March, I was rescued and run by Mr. Wanwang, which is one thing that I can never forget, and this departure will not affect Mr. Wan - because I am ready in this regard, Mr. Wanwang is assured!

I feel that instead of secretly comforting the few who love me, it is better to lose the comfort of those who love me— because the happiness of most people is waiting in the future, which is the burden that historical fate has given to mankind; this burden may be heavy, but I can only do so.

Maybe one day in the future, I can ask for forgiveness in front of my husband. If sir does not blame me for daring to intercede with him in such a situation, I only hope that he will spend some time in the month, and if he can, my mother will not be on a no-man's island.

Perhaps in the future, Chinese children will not have to leave their mothers like this, and if they can do so, many people's deaths will not be in vain.

However, Liao Chengzhi did not expect that after holding the revolutionary ideal of "fighting for the interests of the majority of the people" and despite all difficulties and dangers, after a long journey to the red base area, he was greeted not by a comrade's handshake, but by thorns and heavy instigation on the ground.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

Because of his resolute opposition to Zhang Guotao, the main person in charge of the Red Fourth Front, who was then practicing the erroneous "Left" line, liao Chengzhi was arrested by Zhang Guotao in December 1934 and expelled from the party on the charge of "Kuomintang agents" (KMT agents).

At that time, the founder of the Eyu-Anhui Soviet District and most of the intellectuals in the Red Fourth Front Army were killed by Zhang Guotao, and the reason why Liao Chengzhi was able to survive was that in addition to the prestige of his parents, Zhang Guotao did not dare to act rashly, and more importantly, Liao Chengzhi had a good talent for painting. At that time, there were very few artistic talents in the Red Army who could write and paint, and Zhang Guotao hung portraits of Marx, Enkes, and Lenin at the opening of the congress, posted all kinds of political propaganda posters, and printed banknotes in the base areas, all of which were inseparable from Liao Chengzhi.

After the Start of the Long March, Liao Chengzhi was escorted as a "prisoner" in the marching ranks. Whenever he needed to paint a portrait, write a slogan, paint a propaganda poster, he would be called out. After the painting is finished, it will be locked up again.

Although Liao Chengzhi grew up in a superior environment, in the depths of suffering and grievances, he did not complain at all, and his will was not depressed. Some old comrades recalled that during the Long March, Liao Chengzhi was very silent most of the time, but his silence was full of optimistic spiritual strength, he always devoted himself to work, and wrote and painted and carved, at that time we always felt that there was light in his eyes, and he was a person who was not afraid of death in peace.

The most admirable thing is that he does not want to be a coward, does not want to be a poor person. Even if he was so hungry that he couldn't do it, he didn't want to beg. In order to eat a bite, he would carefully draw a picture for others and then change it.

In 1935, Liao Chengzhi, who firmly believed that the light would surely come, wrote the most important poem of his life, "Ten Thousand Miles of Wearing Shackles", on the way to the Long March.

Mo hesitates, many years.

The world is like this, why this storm alone.

The rope wears a shackle for thousands of miles, and the end of the world is at the end of the world.

Hugh sighed that his friends had covered his face, and the yellow flowers had fallen out of nowhere.

Whoops, the shell let it fill the gully, and the rotten bone let it spread in the wilderness.

The universe is wide, the stars are stacked,

The earth is still hundreds of millions of years away, and a hundred years of life is fleeting.

Laugh, laugh, laugh, why scream with angry eyes?

The heart penetrates the gods and the brain, and the heart shines;

The rope noose knife ring is not in hand, and it has been taken care of for a hundred years.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

In September 1936, when the Red Second and Fourth Fronts arrived by the Yellow River, Zhou Enlai, then vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, happened to see Liao Chengzhi in custody on a trip from the army.

After realizing Liao Chengzhi's situation, Zhou Enlai did not react too much, just walked over and shook his hand tightly, and then left.

This handshake is a kind of silent care, and it also reflects Zhou Enlai's superb art of struggle.

That night, Zhou Enlai sent someone to summon Liao Chengzhi to the headquarters, and in front of Zhang Guotao, Zhu De, Liu Bocheng, and other leaders, he pretended to be angry and asked: "Liao Chengzhi, do you realize your mistake?" ”

Liao Chengzhi replied, "I know." ”

Zhou Enlai asked in a loud voice, "Change or not?" ”

Liao Chengzhi replied: "Change! ”

At this time, Zhou Enlai said loudly: "If you change, you are a good comrade!" Chairman Zhang still welcomes you. ”

It is said that at that time, Zhang Guotao had decided to execute Liao Chengzhi that night, but Zhou Enlai's public words confiscated the butcher knife in his hand.

After being rescued by Zhou Enlai, Liao Chengzhi was first assigned to the Red China News Agency for broadcasting work, and then in October 1937, he was sent by the Party Central Committee to work in the Kuomintang Region.

After the fall of Shanghai, Liao Chengzhi was ordered to evacuate Shanghai to Hong Kong to organize the eighth route army office and raise funds and materials for the New Fourth Army and the Eighth Route Army according to Zhou Enlai's instructions.

After the fall of Hong Kong, Liao Chengzhi was ordered to move to northern Guangdong and participate in the leadership of the Southern Working Committee of the Communist Party of China.

As an important leading comrade on the hidden front in the south, Liao Chengzhi was always on the verge of danger during that period.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

In May 1942, Guo Qian, a cadre director of the Southern Working Committee of the Southern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, was arrested by Kuomintang central command agents in Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, and subsequently defected.

When Guo Qian defected, the underground party quickly reported Zhou Enlai through special channels. In consideration of Liao Chengzhi's safety, Zhou Enlai urgently sent a telegram to the Southern Working Committee, informing Liao Chengzhi in Lechang to return to Chongqing or to his mother He Xiangning immediately, but unfortunately, at the time of emergency, the Southern Committee was unable to contact Liao Chengzhi.

At this time, the traitor Guo Qian drew up a plan for the central unification agents to trap Liao Chengzhi: Guo Qian himself wrote a note to Liao Chengzhi, falsely claiming that the Southern Work Committee had decided that Liao Chengzhi would go to Guilin to evacuate the cultural progressives and set off immediately.

Guo Qian judged that after Liao Chengzhi received the note, he would inevitably go out, and when he arrived at the Lechang Railway Station, he could carry out a secret arrest operation.

In order to trick Liao Chengzhi into taking the bait in time, the Central Unification Special Approved 10,000 Yuan, falsely claiming that this was the travel expenses provided by the Southern Work Committee to Liao Chengzhi to Guilin.

At the end of May 1942, the agents of the Central Command disguised as messengers knocked on the door of Liao Chengzhi's secret residence in Lechang. Liao Chengzhi, unaware of Guo Qian's rebellion, failed to uncover the secret agent's plot and was immediately arrested.

This was the seventh time in Liao Chengzhi's life that he had been arrested, and it was also the longest prison sentence and the most dangerous situation.

After this arrest, Liao Chengzhi was secretly detained in the Taihe majiazhou concentration camps in Jiangxi Province, and then transferred to the slag cave, the White Mansion and the Huangjia Garden at the "Sino-US Cooperation Institute" in Gele Mountain, Chongqing.

In the Majiazhou concentration camp in Jiangxi, for a period of time, the head of the secret service was intimidated by the status and prestige of Liao Chengzhi's parents and was still "polite" to Liao Chengzhi. In order to ask for merit and reward, they tried their best to induce Liao Chengzhi to "change", and gave a lot of "special" care in life.

At this time, Liao Chengzhi, the art of fighting in prison is very clever.

In order to expose the conspiracy of the Kuomintang agents, he drew one spicy cartoon after another, such as "Weasel Asks the Chicken for Peace", "Dead Tree, Hungry Eagle, Evil Dog" and so on. Seeing these cartoons, the agents in the concentration camp were angry and unable to fight, and over time, looking at Liao Chengzhi's cartoons, some agents couldn't help but appreciate them, and even the situation where the head of the secret service asked Liao Chengzhi for a picture.

This is Liao Chengzhi's unique offensive battle.

In addition to attacking the hearts of Kuomintang agents, in the concentration camp, Liao Chengzhi also created a cartoon image for himself, and created a number of cartoons that fought against the enemy and suffering, and had endless fun.

Liao Chengzhi has a nickname called "Fat Boy", and his mother He Xiangning and his uncle Song Qingling like to call him that. In the "Fat Boy in Prison" created by Liao Chengzhi, some mosquitoes are frantically besieging "Fat Boy", some are "Fat Boy" who are wide-eyed and pick up stones and cockroaches from prison meals, some are "Fat Boy" who are concentrating on watching ants move, and some are "Fat Boy" singing loudly at the toilet...

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

Seeing such a Communist Party full of revolutionary optimism every day, one day in September 1942, Yao Baoshan, the concentration camp guard responsible for delivering food to Liao Chengzhi, was thoroughly infected, and when he came in to deliver food, he quietly told Liao Chengzhi that he really wanted to go to Yan'an and was willing to help him carry letters to his relatives.

For Liao Chengzhi, winning such a messenger is of great significance.

Soon, Zhou Enlai received a text message from him -

Yu Hugong:

I was arrested on May 30 and am now in the so-called youth training center near Taehwa. All of them are difficult to describe on paper. I hope you believe that Xiao Liao did not insult the glorious tradition until he died!

The rest, if there is a chance, can be faced, without this opportunity, it is also counted. Shake your hand at this point. Long live the Communist Party of China!

Judging from Liao Chengzhi's text message, in his heart, he was ready to sacrifice at all times.

Judging from his subsequent situation, the danger was indeed pressing towards him step by step. In the winter of 1944, because the news of the secret detention had leaked out, Chiang Kai-shek ordered that Liao Chengzhi be escorted to Chongqing by special plane and imprisoned in the Slag Cave of Gele Mountain, under strict surveillance by the military command.

In those years, once locked up in the slag hole, how many people could come out alive?

For Liao Chengzhi, this was the darkest moment of his life.

In September 1945, on the eve of Mao Zedong's imminent arrival in Chongqing, Chiang Kai-shek suddenly thought of Liao Chengzhi in order to win a favorable situation. As a result, Liao Chengzhi put on new clothes for the first time in three years and was taken into Chiang Kai-shek's official residence.

Seeing Liao Chengzhi, Chiang Kai-shek said, your mother is still waiting for you outside, are you worthy of your father? I appreciate you, as long as you reform, you can stay by my side...

Liao Chengzhi immediately understood, and he immediately interrupted Chiang Kai-shek and said unceremoniously that the Tao was different and did not conspire against each other.

The implication is that Hugh will say it again, and he will kill it, though he will come.

On the afternoon of January 22, 1946, several military command agents ordered Liao Chengzhi to get up and pack his things, and Liao Chengzhi thought that the agents were going to send him on the road.

Nothing to pack!

Liao Chengzhi strode toward the outside of the cell door.

What Liao Chengzhi did not expect was that the car then drove in front of a building, and then he was taken into an office.

Just as he was wondering, the office door was suddenly opened, and Zhou Enlai rushed forward with a few steps, choked up and called out "Xiao Liao", and then hugged Liao Chengzhi tightly in his arms.

In the four years of imprisonment, Liao Chengzhi did not shed a single tear, and at this moment, he could no longer control it, and he cried bitterly in his arms against Zhou Enlai.

After sitting down with Zhou Enlai to talk, Liao Chengzhi learned that four years ago, on the day of his secret arrest, Zhou Enlai had personally sent Qiao Guanhua to Shaoguan to inform him of the transfer, but in the end it was still a step too late. But the party never forgot him, and at the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China, he was elected with the highest vote as the first of the 33 alternate members of the Central Committee. After the Chongqing negotiations, Zhou Enlai listed Liao Chengzhi, Ye Ting, and others as the first list that the Kuomintang must release, and Chiang Kai-shek, under pressure, did not dare to rebel on this issue.

After following Zhou Enlai back to No. 263 Zhongshan Road in Chongqing, where the CCP delegation was stationed, Zhou Enlai's confidential secretary, Tong Xiaopeng, took two precious photographs: one was of Liao Chengzhi hugging Sister Deng, holding a homemade bamboo pipe in his hand, smiling happily, and the other was of Liao Chengzhi's image of a "prisoner" with long hair and a small moustache, a testimony to his imprisonment for the past four years.

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

On April 8, the central government decided to let Liao Chengzhi return to Yan'an by plane with Ye Ting, Wang Ruofei, and others who had just been released. Before leaving, Liao Chengzhi stayed behind because of something. When he learned of the news of the plane crash, Liao Chengzhi was not happy for himself, and he wrote in the altar:

"They will never come back, leaving only their words —the words they have said, the words that have not been said, and these words will remain in my heart forever..."

He Xiangning's son, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned seven and a half times in his life! The most special one, the long march in shackles

After 1949, Liao Chengzhi has been committed to the diplomacy of new China and the work of overseas Chinese, and foreign friends affectionately nicknamed him "Wonderful Liao".

In a special era, Liao Chengzhi was imprisoned for two years and eight months, which is what he called the "half" of imprisonment. In these two years and eight months, only one set of Mao Zedong's complete works and one set of Lu Xun's complete works belonged to him.

What is quite touching is that during these painful days, he actually relied on his memory to recall his own emotional works over the years in the blank space of the title page of Lu Xun's article, with a beautiful fly-headed small letter.

Deng Xiaoping also admired Liao Chengzhi, who once said that this was our party's "expert in prison."

A man of faith whose suffering cannot be defeated.
