Turning into Flexibility - The 7th Guangzhou Triennial

With the theme of "Transformation into Change", this year's Guangzhou Triennale invites more than 50 domestic and foreign artists and groups from a wider cultural background to try to open up a contemporary landscape that seeks change in the midst of change. At the same time, the 7th Guangzhou Triennial Documenta Exhibition was presented at the Guangdong Museum of Art, with "flexibility" as the keyword, combined with the major artistic events related to the development of Chinese contemporary art, and with the important documents in the collection, aiming to systematically sort out the development of Chinese contemporary art since 1977. In addition, the 7th Guangzhou Triennial held four parallel exhibitions at Box Art Museum, Heng Art Museum, Guanspace, and Dongguan 21 Space Art Museum at the same time, connecting the urban art ecology and activating the new year and new atmosphere of Yangcheng with art.

South Stone Past

In 2022, the site of Nanshi Prison was selected as one of the "Top Ten Important Archaeological Discoveries in Guangdong in the Past Decade". The exhibition features a collection of archaeological artifacts and a list of 436 communists and revolutionaries who were once held in Nanshi Prison for the first time to the public. Relying on archaeological achievements and historical documents, the exhibition uses 48 exhibits (sets) and a large number of pictures to partially reconstruct the human historical picture in the Nanshi area. The exhibition is divided into five parts: "Waterfront South Stone", "Fortress South Stone", "Hellfire South Stone", "Miserable South Stone" and "Xinxing South Stone", vividly reproducing the magnificent historical memories of Guangzhou, such as the modern changes in Guangzhou and the establishment and vigorous development of modern industry in Guangzhou.

Teochew wood carvings have a wide range of themes, including historical allusions, folk tales, drama and opera, myths and legends, and real social life. The exhibition focuses on the most dynamic cultural symbol of the Chinese nation "Zodiac", divided into three units: "Origin", "Code" and "Inheritance", through the perspective of history, folklore, nature and other multidisciplinary perspectives, cultural relics, natural specimens, modern and contemporary art and other types of exhibits and interesting interactive installations for the audience to experience in the stop, presenting the characteristics of all-round and multi-angle integration, revealing the mystery of the origin of the zodiac, decrypting the zodiac code, sharing zodiac stories, and promoting zodiac culture. This is not only an exploration of the zodiac culture, but also a journey to find the roots. The zodiac is not only a chronological symbol, but also an unchanging mark of the lives of Chinese children, a bond for safeguarding national feelings, and a cultural memory passed down from generation to generation. The exhibition selects 77 pieces / sets of fine cultural relics of Guangzhou Museum, including blue and white porcelain, multicolored porcelain, guangcai porcelain, Shiwan kiln, export delivery note, navigation supplies, tea salvaged from the Swedish shipwreck Gothenburg, etc. It is worth mentioning that many of the exhibits are newly collected cultural relics in recent years, which are unveiled to the public for the first time. These exports, which have both Chinese regional style and Western art style, once attracted Western aristocrats and merchants to order.
