This sculptural dialogue invites people to explore the realm of "selflessness" in traditional Chinese philosophy

With gold on wood and black on white, from April 26, it will be unveiled at the Jiushi Art Space of Jiushi Art Museum, "No Man's Land-Yang Dongbai and Shi Jinsong Sculpture Double Solo Exhibition", which is quite interesting.

In Taoist philosophy, "Tao" is the fundamental law of the operation of all things in the universe, which is both the origin and the inner force that sustains everything, while the realm of "non-action" and "selflessness" is the way to live in harmony with all things in nature. With the theme of "No Man's Land", this exhibition showcases a total of 30 groups (pieces) of works by two artists, Yang Dongbai and Shi Jinsong, exploring the harmonious coexistence of man and nature in the realm of "selflessness", which can be described as a tribute to the spirit of traditional Chinese philosophy.

Among them, two new sculpture series created by the two artists, "Empty Mountain Tranquility" and "Structure", are presented to the audience for the first time in the exhibition. Through these two new works, the artist hopes to lead the audience into a passage that transcends the constraints of material things and leads to the spiritual world, pursuing inner freedom and tranquility, so as to guide people to think deeply about the philosophical connotation of the realm of "selflessness", and further show the philosophical thinking of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature in the realm of "selflessness".

Born in 1959, Shanghai-based artist Yang Dongbai has been immersed in a strong artistic atmosphere since childhood. In the 1990s, he went to Japan to further his studies and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts, during which time he developed his own unique artistic style through the continuous integration and innovation of various sculptural materials. Yang Dongbai is good at transforming materials into works full of literati temperament and emotion.

"Empty Mountain Jingyi" is Yang Dongbai's profound embodiment of the concept of "rule by inaction". Through the abstract shapes of landscapes and figures, the uncontrollable inflatable expansion of metal materials, and the free flow of water-based paint, the work shows the artist's deep understanding and visual interpretation of the philosophical spirit of "rule by inaction" and "the unity of heaven, earth and man", as well as his love and respect for traditional Chinese culture.

Shi Jinsong is an artist born in Hubei Province in 1969, and after graduating from Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, he embarked on a journey of artistic exploration. He not only participated in China's "85 New Wave" art movement, but also became a leader in the field of contemporary sculpture.

The intertwined and infinitely growing branches make up his new work "Structure". With a unique insight into the choice of materials, the artist skillfully combines traditional elements with modern design to present the visual structure of social diversity and complexity. This structure not only leads the audience to think about the relationship between the individual and the collective, but also prompts people to reflect on the development and progress of human society. Interestingly, the exhibition hall is also equipped with a flashlight, encouraging the audience to pick up the flashlight to focus on the part of the work and feel the subtle changes in perception.
