This original article originated from the WeChat public account: DT Finance (ID: DTcaijing), author | Zheng Xiaohui, Editor, | Zhong Wantong, Tang Yeqin, and Data | Dong Daoli and the design | Qi Tonghun and Zheng Shuya.

Recently, the DT editorial department has been inseparable from these few words when greeting each other every day: "Have you stockpiled food?" "Do you still have vegetables at home?" "Did you grab the dish?"

The recurrence of the epidemic has made the days of home isolation longer than imagined. Hoarding goods has also become an indispensable part of home life.

Last week, we launched a small survey of "2022 epidemic hoarding" and received a total of 1412 valid answers. Among them, the readers who participated in the survey were mainly post-90s (29.9%), post-95s (28.5%), and post-85s (15.1%). The proportion of female participation is close to 70%, and the proportion of readers from first-tier cities is close to 60%, mainly in Shanghai.

In the face of the epidemic, what is everyone hoarding? What is more important and urgent than daily life? Below are the results of this survey.

Who's hoarding?

Once speaking of "hoarding goods", everyone will think that this is a habit of the older generation / hoarding fetish / shopaholics / doomsday preparers. After all, this is an era when consumer goods are available everywhere.

However, in the recent wave of the epidemic, more and more people are isolated at home, and more and more people choose to hoard goods. More than 8 adults in the survey have recently stockpiled goods as a result of the pandemic.

From the perspective of age, from the post-00s to the post-80s, the older the age, the greater the willingness to hoard goods.

The proportion of post-80s hoarders is the highest among all populations, reaching 85.1%. The post-00s hoarding awareness is weaker, only 73.5% of people are prepared for home isolation, and nearly 3 adults have not hoarded.

From the perspective of living situation, people who live alone or with the object are more willing to hoard goods. People who live alone have to take care of themselves, and those who live with the object also have to take care of each other.

In contrast, people who live with friends or parents have a slightly lower hoarding rate, less than 80%. The former may be out of the psychology of "relying on friends", one person buying is equal to "the whole family is rich"; the latter may usually have the habit of hoarding goods, and the family is always ready with sufficient food, medicine and daily necessities.

From the perspective of gender, girls have a stronger sense of stockpiling than boys. 84.2% of the girls have stockpiled goods, "In addition to eating, they also mainly hoarded tissues, sanitary napkins, and safety pants, just in case." Millet (pseudonym) said. The proportion of boys hoarding goods is only 77.4%.

What food do you hoard?

In the Douban post "If you are blocked for 30 days again, what will you prepare", food is the first of the must-haves for hoarding. According to the experience of everyone's home isolation, takeaway delivery may be suspended, and only by trying to fill the refrigerator will you give yourself the greatest sense of security.

Overall, the top 3 foods that more than 6 adults mainly hoard are basic staple foods such as rice noodles, convenience foods and quick-frozen foods. This is followed by foods that are supplemented with vitamins and proteins: vegetables, meat, fruits, milk/yogurt, etc.

According to a hoarding guide written by nutritionist Gu Zhongyi, to ensure basic food and clothing, you need to hoard some rice noodles, oil and salt, multivitamins, and people who can't cook can stock up on some self-heating rice. If you have spare energy, you can stock up on protein, vegetables and delicious food.

However, in contrast, men pay more attention to whether food is hungry, and women pay more attention to the balance of nutritional intake. In the two basic staple foods such as rice noodles and convenience foods, men choose a higher proportion than women, and women choose to hoard vegetables, meat, and fruits higher than men.

Stockpiling is not easy, but in the limited choice, it is important to fill your stomach and achieve nutritional balance.

When asked what would you buy if you could only stock up to 3 foods/supplements, many people answered according to the "staple food (starch) + protein + vitamin" arrangement, and the top 3 most nominated foods were vegetables, meat, rice, followed by eggs. An egg is fried and cooked in the hands of Chinese, which can change a lot and is rich in protein.

From fresh Cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, to well-preserved, quick-frozen, dehydrated vegetables, a variety of "green placebos" are also on the list. Fruits that are also rich in vitamins ranked 9th, and vitamin supplements ranked 10th. "When you can't buy vegetables, eating Vitamin C tablets can give yourself a short life." Cong Cong (pseudonym) said.

Food stockpiles vary by age. The younger you are, the more you covet convenience and speed, and the older you get, the harder you try to maintain your daily diet.

Specifically, the post-00s and post-95s like to hoard convenience foods the most, and the post-95s also like to hoard quick-frozen foods. From traditional instant noodles to snail powder, chutney powder, self-heating rice, etc., these are all delicacies that young people can do in 10 minutes. "And very period, very strategic, directly hoarding two boxes, much faster than choosing vegetables one by one to buy vegetables, and you don't have to cook yourself." Spicy Pickled Pepper (pseudonym) said.

The post-90s generation likes to hoard vegetables and meat the most, and rice noodle staples, quick-frozen foods, and convenience foods rank 3rd, 4th and 5th. In the hearts of the post-90s, staple foods are important, but they must also supplement the body with nutrition and enhance their resistance, so that they can "fight" for a long time.

The post-85s and post-80s generations like to hoard basic foods such as rice noodles, followed by meat and vegetables. Even if they are isolated at home, the post-80s and post-85s also want to strive to maintain a similar pace of life and eating habits as usual, and ensure that they and their families eat and drink well three meals a day.

Another small finding is that compared with the post-95, 90 and 85, post-00s are also more receptive to traditional Chinese medicine supplements.

Survey data shows that when faced with home isolation, less than 2% of other age groups choose traditional Chinese medicine supplements, but 5.3% of post-00s will take precautions and take the initiative to stockpile some traditional Chinese medicine supplements, including Chinese medicine decoctions.

In order to cope with home isolation, what is more important to everyone?

From the perspective of the different types of goods that people hoard, we can find different attitudes towards life in home isolation.

In terms of diet, similar to the above favorite foods of all ages, some people feel that the diet of home life should be convenient and eat for a period of time; some people pursue exquisite nutritional collocations, even if the price of vegetables rises, they will place orders. And the younger you are, the less you care about nutritional collocation, as long as you can quickly fill your stomach, you can get by.

If three meals a day can be made up for the time being, then in terms of life, everyone is not sloppy.

In addition to food, disinfection supplies and masks are the most purchased items when people respond to home isolation. The second is medicine, mainly cold medicines, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory drugs that will be used in daily life, in case you are uncomfortable during the stay at home, and you can use home medicines for emergency.

It is equally important for pet owners to take care of their furry children during home isolation. Cat litter, cat food, dog food... These pet supplies, which consume a lot, should be stockpiled in advance.

In order to avoid being bored at home every day, everyone will buy something that kills time. For example, the purchase of music platforms, video platforms VIP, puzzles to pass the time, toys, game consoles, etc.; there are also a small number of people who take the opportunity to cultivate themselves, or raise some green plants, or order family fitness equipment, exercise, or buy cooking tools, and take advantage of the isolation period to exercise cooking.

Among them, the post-00s generation enjoy life the most among all age groups.

From music, video site members, game kryptonite, toys, to skin care products, cosmetics, self-help equipment, to green plants, aromatherapy, home fitness equipment and other items to enhance the quality of life, the proportion of post-00s who choose to buy them ranks first.

The post-00s who are isolated at home arrange themselves clearly, not only richly, but also very exquisitely.

In addition, 9.4% of people have purchased insurance, such as medical insurance and isolation insurance.

With the new round of the epidemic, more and more people are paying attention to the new type of isolation insurance. The more popular isolation insurance ranges from 36 yuan to hundreds of yuan, and pays 100-1500 yuan / day to people who have become close contacts due to contact with patients infected with new crown and are required to be quarantined by the government.

However, in the discussion on isolation insurance on Weibo and Xiaohongshu, many people have suggested that they should invest in insurance carefully, and it is impossible to spend two cups of milk tea money casually to get a "huge amount of money", only "see the purchase restrictions and claim clauses, can not be harvested."

What has changed in this epidemic?

When encountering home isolation, and in the case of tight transportation capacity and insufficient inventory, people have begun to enter the army of vegetable grabbing.

In order to grab the dish and smoothly place an order to pay, everyone is no longer afraid of society, and no longer lies in bed.

In the 7 types of food grabbing army, although nearly half of the people are more casual and buy when they grab it, the group purchase package of 50/70/100 starts to let nearly 4 adults take the initiative to find neighbors and communities to buy together; there are more than 3 adults who set different alarm clocks every day, open different APP to grab dishes, and joke about their "dream back to military training".

Perhaps because they can't grab the dish, when they are isolated at home, most people eat simply, but some people eat healthier during their stay at home. People who live alone and live with friends and strangers often choose to eat simply, while those who live with their objects eat healthier and even more refined.

In Shanghai, where the epidemic is high, nearly 40% of people eat simpler than usual, and they feel that it is good to eat enough, but eating healthier, more, and more delicate than usual accounts for 30%, 20%, and 10%, respectively.

Hufu Xiaowu (pseudonym) resigned at the end of March, so now there is plenty of time at home every day to cook for the object: "In fact, we don't buy many dishes, but each dish will be ready to eat, every two days to change the taste, such as eating Korean-style sim ramen today, eating fried rice tomorrow, and eating egg fried dumplings the day after tomorrow." ”

In addition to the difference in diet, the epidemic has also made a lot of changes.

Many people's weight has steadily increased. After all, if there is no habit of doing exercise at home, then home isolation often means that the number of WeChat steps per day plummets. From the room to the kitchen, from the kitchen to the bathroom, the number of steps at the end of the day will not exceed 3 digits.

The people who cook every day are also becoming more and more sophisticated. The past scandal of blowing up the kitchen has been written off, and I believe that the day to be unsealed is when they officially take off the title of "kitchen killer".

The post-00s are the most negatively affected by the epidemic, more than 40% of the post-00s are depressed and feel lonely, and nearly 15% of the post-00s are more distant from the surrounding people.

The mentality of the post-90s generation is more optimistic, and the pace of life is maintained relatively well, not only the ability to cook and do housework has been improved, but also the weight has been reduced.

Write at the end

After 2020, life began to be shrouded in the shadow of the epidemic. Almost everyone has experienced: schools have closed and reopened, companies have resumed work and announced that they are working from home, travel has become easier, and new obstacles may arise at any time.

By this time, people began to discuss what goods to stock under the epidemic, and it seemed that life had been reduced to the level of food and clothing. But in the survey, we also found that when life returns to the family, people still care about the health of themselves and their relatives and friends, and they are also trying to improve their quality of life in various ways, so that they can try their best to live every day in front of them.

Under this epidemic, we sincerely wish you peace and health.
