2022 Top 100 Global Car Brands: BYD 19th, Tesla 3rd, top of the list worth 408 billion

As we all know, China is the world's largest automobile market, with cumulative sales of 4.268 million units in January-February 2022, up 7.5% year-on-year; of which new energy vehicles sold 765,000 units, up 154.7% year-on-year. Although independent brands have developed rapidly in recent years, there is still a big gap with foreign car companies in terms of brand value.

In Brand Finance's 2022 World's 100 Most Valuable Car Brands list, there are 24 Chinese brands, ranking first, followed by the United States (19), Japan (14), the United Kingdom (9), and Germany (8). The total brand value is $44.5 billion, accounting for 7.29%, behind Germany (31.83%), Japan (23.51%) and the United States (19.93%).

BYD is China's most valuable automobile brand, ranking 19th with a total of 6.4 billion US dollars, while its Song, Tang and Qin ranked 57th, 88th and 95th respectively. Last year, BYD sold 730093 vehicles, an increase of 75.4% year-on-year, of which 593745 new energy vehicles, an increase of 231.6% year-on-year, won the annual sales championship in the Chinese market for 9 consecutive times, and was the first Chinese brand to achieve one million new energy vehicles off the production line.

2022 also ushered in a good start, with sales of new energy vehicles reaching 181,500 units in January and February, an increase of 494.28% year-on-year. This year, we plan to sell 1.1 million to 1.2 million units, and if calculated at the highest target, the average monthly sales volume will reach 100,000 units. Previously, almost no car companies achieved this goal. Whether BYD can achieve its wishes, we will wait and see.

Haval ranked 20th, with sales of 770008 units last year, up 2.6 percent year-over-year. Overseas sales of 98,163 units, the cumulative sales of more than 7 million units. The Haval H6, which has the aura of "national god car", sold 370437 units throughout the year and won the annual sales of SUV models for nine consecutive years.

In addition, traditional brands such as Geely, Great Wall, Futian, Jiefang, and Dongfeng, as well as new car-making forces such as Ideal, Weilai, and Xiaopeng, are all on the list. Accounting for 8 of the 10 fastest-growing brands, but overall, Chinese brands are "many but not strong", and there is still a long way to go in the future.

Let's briefly introduce the top ten. Tesla rose from No. 6 to No. 3 and grew in value by 44 percent to $46 billion, making it the fastest-growing brand, up 271 percent in the past two years. Last year, Tesla delivered a total of 936,200 vehicles, and for the fourth consecutive year, Tesla won the global new energy vehicle sales championship, with a market share of 14.4%. As of March 11, its market capitalization reached $822 billion, more than three times that of Toyota Motor Corporation ($218.277 billion).

Volkswagen and Porsche under the German Volkswagen Group entered the top ten, in addition to Audi (11), Skoda (31), Scania (33), Bentley (42), Mann (47), Lamborghini (51), Seat (68) and other 7 brands on the list, is still the highest brand value of the car group.

The top 10 Japanese brands accounted for 3 seats, and Toyota once again became the world's most valuable car brand, with brand value rising by 8.1% to US$64.283 billion ( about 408 billion yuan). The Group's Lexus (14), Subaru (18), Hino (41), and Daihatsu (49) are also on the list.

Despite the same supply shortage, Toyota achieved positive growth and became the only manufacturer in the world to sell more than 10 million vehicles. Sales in the Chinese market reached 1,944,500 units, up 8.2% year-on-year, a record high for the ninth consecutive year; imported luxury brand Lexus sold more than 200,000 vehicles.

In Volkswagen's home market (Europe), Toyota reached a record 6.4% market share, with sales up 8% year-on-year to 1,076,300 units; in the U.S. market, it surpassed GM and broke the latter's 90-year monopoly. In addition, sales in Southeast Asia, Australia, Latin America, Africa and other regions are doing well.
