Fast Technology reported on May 24 that in the rapid development of China's new energy vehicle industry, BYD Auto is undoubtedly the master and leader.

Recently, BYD held a significant unveiling ceremony at its Xi'an base, marking the official opening of the birthplace of the world's first plug-in hybrid vehicle, which is not only a testimony to BYD's 20 years of plug-in hybrid technology accumulation, but also an important milestone in the development of new energy vehicles in China.

As an important branch of new energy vehicles, plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV) combines the advantages of traditional fuel vehicles and pure electric vehicles, which can not only provide a long range, but also achieve zero emissions in short-distance driving, and is one of the key technologies to promote the green transformation of the automotive industry.

In 2008, BYD successfully developed the first generation of DM technology, using a dual-motor series-parallel structure, which was first installed in the BYD F3DM, which is the model that appeared at the plaque ceremony.

In 2013, BYD launched the second-generation DM technology, which uses a water-cooled motor integrated with a dual-clutch transmission (P3), matched with the engine to form a hybrid powertrain, and successively carries Qin, Song, Tang and other models for sales, and adds a drive motor (P4) on the rear axle to form a three-engine four-wheel drive system, achieving an amazing result of accelerating to 100 kilometers in less than 5 seconds.

In 2018, on the basis of the second-generation DM technology, BYD added and developed a PSG auxiliary motor (P0) to comprehensively improve the dynamics, economy and smoothness of dual-mode vehicles, which is called the third-generation DM technology.

In 2021, BYD launched the fourth-generation hybrid technology DM-i, equipped with Qin PLUS, Song PLUS and Tang models on the market, until this year, the latest Honor Edition models all use the fourth-generation DM-i technology.

It is reported that BYD will release its fifth-generation DM technology on May 28, this technology will undoubtedly further improve the performance of plug-in hybrid vehicles, and relevant sources have revealed that the fuel consumption of new cars equipped with the fifth-generation DM hybrid will usher in a new low, with a comprehensive range of up to 2000 kilometers.
