Tomorrow is the "March 8" Women's Day, today (7th) afternoon, a women-themed "February Willow Wind - East China Normal University Female Calligraphy seal carving exhibition" opened at the East China Normal University Minhang Campus Art Museum.

"February Willow Wind - East China Normal University Girls Calligraphy Seal Engraving Exhibition" is an upgraded version of the "TongGuan Fengya - Girls Calligraphy Exhibition" sponsored by the Academy of Fine Arts of East China Normal University in 2019, and has become an important brand of the school's girls' calligraphy seal engraving exhibition. The core works of the exhibition are traditional couplets, of which 31 self-written works by girls are the concentrated teaching achievements of "one day and one union" and the implementation of the daily writing concept of "brush diary" in the teaching of East China Normal University. These works have both true, grass, subordinate, seal and line in calligraphy expression, including Wing Chun works and works that celebrate the times and express calligraphic perceptions.

In order to cooperate with this exhibition, ten editions are also set up in the exhibition hall to introduce ancient and modern female scholars. From the ancient Cai Wenji, Lady Wei, Wu Zetian, and The Pipeline to the modern Tan Yue se, Xiao Xian, You Shou, Zhou Huijun, etc., visitors seem to travel through ancient and modern times. According to the organizers, this part aims to let female calligraphers enter the public vision, popularize the aesthetic taste of women's calligraphy to the public, and encourage students to take on the heavy responsibility of inheritance.

The third theme section of the event is the display of seal engraving works. The exhibits are either vivid and interesting seal engraving screens, or enlarged printed surface works with visual tension, with a variety of styles. Among them, there are both pre-Qin ancient seals that pursue greatness and magnificence, Qin and Han seal styles that pursue ancient humility and orthodoxy, and Ming and Qing dynasties that pursue the interest of literati, showing the students' solid sword and stone marks.

It is reported that the East China Normal University Education Department's Chinese excellent traditional culture seal carving inheritance base and Jinshan District Tinglin Ancient Town linkage, the creation of the "Tinglin Hundred Songs" series of seal engraving works are also partially displayed in it. This is also an important practice of the school for the integration of aesthetic education in large, medium, and small schools and the strengthening of social aesthetic education.

The exhibition site also set up a calligraphy seal engraving guide and experience area. The seal carving tools are available on the square table, and female teachers and students can experience the joy of seal carving by hand. Gu Qin, a professor in the Calligraphy Department of the Academy of Fine Arts, introduced relevant knowledge while engraving seals and popularized the art of seal engraving. Li Kai, a teacher in the School of Physics and Electronic Sciences, was the first to come into contact with seal engraving. Today, with the help of her teacher, she completed her first work, Li Zi. "So happy! Today's event made me feel that the art of seal engraving is very interesting. ”

Industry experts believe that in the current state of great lack of originality in calligraphy creation texts, although the exhibition is small, it plays an important role in the cultural education of calligraphy. Zhang Suo, director of the Calligraphy Department of the Academy of Fine Arts of East China Normal University and director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, introduced that the exhibition aims to promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture, promote education with exhibition, and disseminate university aesthetic education. "At present, female students account for a large proportion of calligraphy education in colleges and universities, and their level of calligraphy and printing art is booming and gaining momentum." Zhang Suo introduced that in East China Normal University, the number of female and male students majoring in calligraphy and seal engraving is equal. This also inspired the teacher team to think about how to better display the artistic heritage of girls' calligraphy and seal engraving in their daily teaching. To this end, the school has set up a series of special courses, the core of its teaching is to make traditional culture effectively implemented in the teaching of colleges and universities, while attaching importance to techniques, but also to enhance students' cultural accomplishment, to achieve both art and literature teaching effect.
