Qian Juntao (1907-1998) was a native of Tongxiang, Zhejiang.
Mr. Qian Juntao is a famous seal engraver and calligrapher in contemporary China who is "one body of three arts, ninety peaks". He once served as the vice president of Xiling Printing Agency and the editor of Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House.
In his lifetime, he ruled more than 20,000 square seals, traced the seals of the Qin and Han Dynasties, and took the essence of the families of the late Qing Dynasty. Its style is Wu Changshuo's old spicy and unrestrained; Zhao Zhiqian's thick and ethereal; and Huang Mufu's qingjun flatness. It can really be described as a disease technique, a crane standing on the altar of printing, a famous name at home and abroad, and a big one.
Mr. Qian Juntao is an artist who combines poetry, books, paintings and prints, and has the highest attainments and contributions in all aspects.
Qian Juntao's paintings are simple in pen and ink, vigorous and old,and artistic conception; calligraphy and seals, li, grass, and kai are all gong, especially the simple and flexible Lishu solo book altar; the seal carving of The Emperor Qin Han, after Zhao Zhiqian, Wu Changshuo, and Huang Mufu, has another way, ingenuity, calculation of white and black, easy to put away, long side money, self-written poetry, and has a place of predecessors.
Qian Juntao collects a wealthy collection and is proficient in appreciation. The earliest collections include Xu Wei, Chen Chun, Wen Zhengming, Zhang Hong, Shen Zhou, Chen Hongshou, Qiu Ying, etc., followed by Gong Xian, Shi Tao, Hua Yan, Wang Yi, Wang Yuanqi, Jin Nong, Li Fangyi, Zheng Xie, Yi Bingshou, Zhao Zhiqian, Wu Rangzhi, Wu Changshuo, Huang Shiling, Ren Bonian, Xu Gu, Qi Baishi and so on. By the early 1960s, there were thousands of works by ancients.
Mr. Qian had a special love for Zhao Zhiqian, Huang Shiling and Wu Changshuo in seal carving, and by the early 1960s, he had received more than 100 Zhao Zhiqian seals, 159 Huang Shiling seals, and 200 Wu Changshuo seals, and took the aliases of the three (Wu Zhao Zhiqian, Huang Shiling, and Wu Changshuo), and named his study "No Tired bitter zhai". He especially liked Hua Yan (Silla), and in order to raise huge sums of money, he painfully sold the works of Cha Shibiao, Wu Changshuo, and Xu Beihong, and also used up his savings over the years. Later, after accumulating years of income, he finally received more than 100 albums of Huayan calligraphy and paintings, and named the "Silla Mountain Pavilion" and "Baohua Jingshe" for the bookstore.
