Guided by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Art Education Commission, and co-organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Art Education Center and the Shanghai Teacher Training Center, the Shanghai Municipal Primary and Secondary School Principals' Artistic Literacy Improvement Seminar is a key project of the Shanghai Municipal Office of Cultural and Educational Integration. Aiming at the specific group of principals of primary and secondary schools, the seminar unites cultural and artistic groups to effectively improve the artistic appreciation ability, artistic theory level and artistic practice ability of primary and secondary school (including secondary vocational) principals through art appreciation, art experience and artistic practice.
Since April 2021, Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center has provided 20 compulsory training activities for 90 principals and kindergarten principals from primary and secondary schools (including secondary vocational) and kindergartens in 16 districts of the city, including 7 lectures by famous teachers, 7 excellent guided tours, 5 practical experience activities, 1 expert forum seminar and 5 elective course activities, which not only explore the essence of drama education from the source, but also help school administrators to explore teaching practice.
In the high-quality guided tour, the principals observed the shanghai dramatic arts center's rehearsal and award-winning high-quality plays in recent years, including the stage drama "Wave" focusing on the theme of red patriotism, the musical drama "The Book of beacons", the drama "Dream of the Red Chamber" with classical literary themes, the suspense drama "Labyrinth of Hearts" that combines images and stages, and the drama "Home Guest" and "Death of a Salesman" that focus on human philosophy. Yu Rongjun, playwright and drama education expert Li Nianning, director He Nian, classical literature scholar Professor Dong Mei, professor Shen Liang of Shanghai Theater Academy were also invited to give special lectures, so that the principals participating in the training could feel the artistic characteristics of drama, aesthetic interest, and the connotation and aesthetic spirit of drama aesthetic education.
In the workshop, the principals changed from educators to performers, learners, and stage creators, walking to the front of the stage, going behind the scenes, to practice, to perform, to think, to explore. Musical theatre vocal performance experience classes, creative drama workshops, drama interdisciplinary integration education workshops, emotional and life education workshops, stage design workshops, moral education practice workshops, etc. led principals to experience the fun of stage performance and drama teaching in a practical way.
Cao Xia, director of The Partio Kindergarten in Baoshan District, Shanghai, spoke at the graduation ceremony as a representative of outstanding students. She said that nearly a year of study has not only improved her perception and appreciation of drama, but more importantly, opened a door to theater education. At the graduation ceremony, Xu Yun, deputy director of the Ministry of Arts and Education of East China Normal University, gave a wonderful lecture on "The Structure and Organization of Art Education Curriculum", deconstructing the teaching methods and strategies of art education in a simple and simple way, and analyzing why the campus needs art education and what kind of art education is needed.
