The nearly one-year Shanghai Primary and Secondary School Principals' Art Literacy Improvement Seminar (Drama Section) recently successfully held an online graduation ceremony. Since April 2021, Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center has provided 20 compulsory training activities for 90 principals and kindergarten principals from primary and secondary schools (including secondary vocational) and kindergartens in 16 districts of the city, including 7 lectures by famous teachers, 7 high-quality guided tours, 5 practical experience activities and 1 expert forum seminar, as well as 5 elective course activities, with a total of 25 training activities.

In the workshop, the principals changed from educators to performers, learners, and stage creators, going to the front and back of the stage to practice, to perform, to think, to explore.

At the graduation ceremony, Xu Yun, deputy director and associate professor of the Ministry of Arts and Education of East China Normal University, gave a wonderful lecture on "Structure and Organization of Art Education Curriculum". From the selection of teaching materials, the understanding of the teaching process and the use of teaching methods, Xu Yun used examples and images to deconstruct the teaching methods and strategies of art education in a simple and simple way, and analyzed the two major topics of "why we need art education" and "what kind of art education we need", which benefited teachers and art lovers who watched the live broadcast a lot.

The seminar combines theory, practice and aesthetics, which not only explores the essence of drama education from the source, but also helps school leaders and administrators to explore teaching practice, with rich content and diverse forms. In the "Quality Guided Tour", the principals observed the shanghai dramatic arts center's rehearsal and award-winning high-quality plays in recent years, including the stage drama "The Wave" focusing on the theme of red patriotism, the musical drama "The Book of beacons", the classical literary story drama "Dream of the Red Chamber", the suspense drama "Labyrinth of Hearts" that combines images and stages, and the drama "The Guest" and "Death of the Salesman" that focus on the philosophy of human nature.

In order to enable the principals to better appreciate the drama, Shangjiao also invited Yu Rongjun, screenwriter of Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center, Li Nianning, screenwriter and drama education expert, He Nian, director of Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center, Professor Dong Mei, scholar of classical literature, and Professor Shen Liang of Shanghai Theater Academy, to give special lectures, so that the principals participating in the training could feel the artistic characteristics of drama, aesthetic interest, and the connotation and aesthetic spirit of drama aesthetic education to the greatest extent.

Musical theater vocal performance experience class

At the same time, the seminar also designed and organized musical theater vocal performance experience classes, creative drama workshops, drama interdisciplinary integration education workshops, emotional and life education workshops, stage design workshops, moral education practice workshops, etc., to lead principals to experience the fun of stage performance and drama teaching in a practical way, open up the ideas of drama education, and inspire the means of drama education and campus aesthetic education implementation.

Cao Xia, director of The Partio Kindergarten in Baoshan District, Shanghai, said that the seminar (drama section) allowed the campus leaders to absorb rich artistic nourishment while enjoying the art, not only read the cultural spirit and connotation of the work, but also went from the front of the stage to the backstage, had a stage design experience, improved the ability to learn and apply, and the whole process of participation and experience broke their own inherent concepts and experienced the joy of drama with their hearts.
