The sunroof of Audi's new car leaked, and the owner complained that it was raining outside the car and dripping water inside the car

■Press:

Audi Q3 sunroof leakage problem occurs frequently, is it an occasional case or a common quality disease?

About a week after picking up the car, the vehicle sunroof had a water leakage problem, which was a bad thing that Audi owner Mr. Liang encountered.

Recently, Mr. Liang reported to consumer reports that his Audi Q3 car had a problem with water leakage on the roof, and Mr. Liang believed that there was a quality problem in the vehicle itself, and asked the 4S shop to make a replacement treatment, but did not get the consent of the other party.

"Consumer Report" found on the platforms such as the car quality network and the car home that many netizens reported that the Audi Q3 had a problem of sunroof leakage. So, is the above problem a common problem for the quality of Audi's Q3 models? What is Audi's response to this? Consumer Report conducted an interview on this.

The sunroof leaks every week of picking up the car

"We bought a car with hard work and money, and we didn't expect such a problem." Mr. Liang said in an interview with Consumer Report.

According to Mr. Liang, he bought a Q3 car at an official Audi 4S store in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and picked it up on January 21. Unexpectedly, the car brought unexpected distress to Mr. Liang.

"On January 29, my lover and I were driving when we suddenly noticed water dripping from the make-up mirror in the passenger seat." Mr. Liang said.

The photos and videos provided by Mr. Liang show that there are traces of water penetration near the makeup mirror in the passenger seat, and even water droplets are attached to the roof of the car, during which water droplets drip from time to time.

Mr. Liang said that a few days before the incident, there was rainy weather in Suzhou, and he parked his vehicle in the outdoor parking lot of the community, and only found that there was a dripping problem on the roof of the car when he drove on the day of the incident.

However, at this time, only about a week had passed since Mr. Liang picked up the car. "I can't understand the reason for this new car with water leakage on the roof, and it's hard for me and my lover to accept it." Mr. Liang said.

The owner's offer to change the car was rejected

After discovering the problem, Mr. Liang drove the car to the Audi 4S store where the car was purchased for maintenance.

The explanation given by the 4S shop is that the car is driving, and the water in the sunroof pipe crosses the retaining slot and enters the car. I don't understand this, does this mean that some of the parts of the vehicle itself have quality defects? Mr. Liang said.

Mr. Liang said that the 4S shop should carry out a large-scale dismantling and maintenance of the roof sunroof. At this point, Mr. Liang believes that he bought a "problem car" with quality defects and asked the 4S shop to change the car, but he did not get the consent of the other party.

In response to mr. Liang's problems, Consumer Reports got in touch with the Audi 4S store where Mr. Liang bought the car, and Mr. Wang, the service director of the store, said that Mr. Liang's car passenger seat visor did have the problem of water leakage, and the 4S store could provide free maintenance, sunroof extension for one year, free maintenance and other solutions, but Mr. Liang did not agree with this.

"Judging from past experience, we guessed that the leakage may have been caused by the water in the vehicle's sunroof drain over the water barrier, but these need to be overhauled in detail before the repair plan can be determined." At present, the owner does not agree to our dismantling and maintenance of the vehicle, we also hope to help repair the car, and the subsequent compensation measures can be renegotiated. Mr. Wang said.

Guo Xiaoming, a lawyer at Shanghai Zhonglian (Chengdu) Law Firm, a well-known legal blogger @ Tandian, pointed out: "According to the relevant provisions of the three-guarantee policy for automobiles, household automobile products need to replace the engine, transmission, power battery, driving drive motor or its main components due to quality problems within 7 days from the date of the validity period of the three guarantees; or within 60 days from the date of the validity period of the three guarantees or within 3000 kilometers of the mileage (whichever comes first), the steering system fails and the braking system fails due to quality problems." 2. Body cracking, fuel leakage or power battery fire; or due to serious safety performance failures have been repaired twice, but the fault has not been ruled out or a new serious safety performance failure has occurred, etc., to meet the conditions for car replacement. Therefore, Mr. Liang's situation does not meet the conditions for changing the car in the three-pack policy, and the 4S shop can be required to provide free maintenance measures. ”

Is it an occasional case or a quality problem?

Mr. Liang said that he checked the relevant information on the Internet and found that many netizens complained about the problem of sunroof leakage in the Q3 car. To this end, Mr. Liang questioned, speculating that other Q3 cars may have similar problems.

"Consumer Report" found that a large number of netizens reported that the Sunroof leakage problem of Audi Q3 cars on the platform found that a large number of models from 2019 to 2020 and 2021 were involved.

So, is Mr. Liang's encounter an accidental case, or is there a common quality problem in the Q3 model? To this end, Consumer Report sent an interview letter to FAW-Volkswagen Audi for inquiry, but did not receive a reply as of press time.

According to the relevant provisions of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products, if the Audi Q3 model does have some kind of quality disease that endangers personal safety and causes property damage, Audi shall immediately organize an investigation and analysis after learning that the automobile product may be defective, eliminate the quality defect of the vehicle for consumers, and truthfully report the investigation and analysis results to the product quality supervision department. If it is an unreasonable danger that endangers the safety of persons and property that is common in a batch, model or category of automobile products due to design, manufacturing and other reasons, or does not meet the national standards for automobile safety, the production, sale and import of defective automobile products shall be stopped immediately and a recall shall be implemented. Guo Xiaoming said.

Official data shows that in 2021, Audi delivered 700,000 vehicles in the Chinese market, nearly 150,000 vehicles less than BMW's annual sales, and sales fell by 3.6% year-on-year due to factors such as chip shortages. In the case of declining sales, Audi should pay more attention to improving product quality control and service standards. Consumer Reports will continue to monitor the progress of the sunroof leakage problem of Audi's Q3 model.
