Sisyphus is a figure in Greek mythology who was once the founder and king of Corinth. At one point, he kidnapped the god of death, leaving the world without death. Finally, Sisyphus offended the gods, and the gods, in order to punish Sisyphus, demanded that he push a boulder up to the top of the mountain, and because the boulder was so heavy that he rolled down the mountain every time he did not reach the top of the mountain, and his previous efforts were abandoned, so he repeated and never stopped doing this—and the gods thought that there was no more severe punishment than to carry out such ineffective and hopeless labor. Sisyphus's life was slowly exhausted in such an ineffective and hopeless labor.
