During the Spring Festival holiday, tens of thousands of migratory birds roost and forage in the city's major wetlands, wintering and springing in place for the New Year, adding a festive color to the wetlands in the first month. On 2 February, the 26th World Wetlands Day, rangers at the Seven Caspian Sea Wetlands are still busy at work, guarding migratory birds for the winter.

Just after 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the Chinese New Year, Han Baoliang, a staff member of the Qilihai Wetland Conservation Center, changed his overalls, took a SLR camera and binoculars, entered the core area of the Qilihai Wetland, and began a day of inspection and monitoring work.

"I am usually responsible for observing migratory birds with the Seven Caspian Sea Patrol Team, checking the water quality, water level and other conditions. Generally, we patrol according to the two routes of the East China Sea and the West Sea, and it takes about two or three hours to walk down in a circle. Han Baoliang said, "Today in several ice-free waters in the East China Sea, I observed several groups of spot-billed ducks and mallards, flying low against the water surface, which should be foraging, and the migratory birds are in good condition." ”

It is understood that the patrol work of the Seven Caspian Seas is divided into three teams on duty in turn, and each patrol team is 24 hours a day as soon as it is on duty. "For the staff of the wetland, 365 days a year must be manned, regardless of annual festivals and holidays, and whoever takes the turn in shifts is whoever." Han Baoliang said, "In the past two years, more and more migratory birds have stayed in the Seven Caspian Sea for the winter, and this year we are here to accompany the migratory birds for the New Year, which is very good!" ”

"The theme of this year's World Wetland Day is 'Cherish Wetlands, Harmonious Coexistence between Man and Nature', over the years, Tianjin has adhered to ecological priority, protection priority, maintenance of wetland ecological functions, and construction of wetland protection system, and the city's four major wetland protected areas have become important wintering grounds for migratory birds." Guo Xiumin, director of the Wetland Division of the Municipal Bureau of Planning and Resources, told reporters, "In order to do a good job in wetland protection during the Spring Festival, we deployed in advance to strengthen inspection and patrol of 4 wetland protection areas, 24-hour duty duty, the staff of the Wetland Department of the Municipal Bureau also waited for 24 hours, and carried out on-site key supervision of the patrol and safety management of the protected areas to ensure that there are no blind spots and no dead ends, and timely stop violations of laws and regulations such as destroying wetland resources and destroying the ecological environment of migratory birds, so as to ensure the safety of migratory birds through the winter." ”

According to dynamic observations, as of January 31, there are nearly 10,000 spot-billed ducks and mallard ducks in the Qilihai Wetland; about 22,000 egrets, wild ducks, seagulls, and white-boned chickens in the Tuanbo Wetland; and there are thousands of geese, tens of thousands of wild ducks, and 4 warty-nosed swans, 6 baby swans, and thousands of Aurora crows and finches in the Beidagang Wetland.
