On the morning of February 11, the monitoring of waterbird resources in the province is being carried out, and the synchronous investigation of winter waterbirds in Zhengzhou Yellow River Wetland Nature Reserve has also begun. In the Habitat of The Mu Birds in the Yellow River Wetland of Zhengzhou, 104 national first-class protected animals were accidentally found, which is the largest population of great bustards found in Zhengzhou in the past decade.

【Discovery】104 giant bustards, a national first-class protected animal, appeared in the Zhongmu Yellow River Wetland

When talking about this group of bustards, Li Feng, deputy director of the management station of the Yellow River Wetland Nature Reserve in Zhongmu County, is still unable to hide his excitement. He said that although several large bustards were found in the wetlands this winter, the numbers were relatively small, usually 20 or 30. On Friday morning, staff at the conservation station contacted him to say that a group of great bustards had been spotted in the Zhongmu bird habitat, and it seemed that the number was not small.

Through monitoring, the staff reported to Li Feng the number of great bustards. "Probably more than 30", "No, there may be more than 50", "Not right, there may be more than 80". Therefore, Li Feng asked the staff to record the surveillance video, circle the area where the great bustards are concentrated, and check one by one, and finally got the result that made them particularly excited - 104.

There are more than 100 animals, and they are national-level protected animals, and such a scene has not appeared in the past ten years. Li Feng said that the discovery of this group of bustards coincided with the day of the synchronous investigation of water birds, which can be described as no coincidence.

So why is there suddenly such a large population of bustards? Zhao Zongying, head of the monitoring section of the Management Center of the Yellow River Wetland Nature Reserve in Zhengzhou, analyzed that in general, in autumn and winter, some of the great bustards migrate to the Yellow River wetland in Henan, and then disperse as a family unit, and at most about twenty are concentrated together.

However, in the middle of February, the great bustard also entered the preparatory stage of the northern return. 104 great bustards appear in one place, indicating that they are assembling and then embarking on a journey back to the north.

These 104 great bustards were naturally counted into the data of the Waterbird Survey. The reporter of Dahe Baoyu Video learned from the Henan Provincial Forestry Bureau that the monitoring of waterbird resources in the province is currently being carried out simultaneously.

Wang Chunping, director of the Wildlife and Wetland Monitoring Station of the Forestry Survey and Planning Institute, said that the simultaneous survey of waterbirds was carried out from February 9 to 13, this time mainly in the scope of nature reserves and wetland parks. Because the ecosystems of these two types of places are relatively complete and independent. Through this survey, Henan Province will establish relevant systems and form a sound system for biodiversity in nature reserves and wetland parks.

In order to fully grasp the dynamic changes of species composition, distribution and population of waterbirds in the Yellow River wetland in our city and their protection status, on February 11, zhengzhou Yellow River Wetland Nature Reserve carried out a synchronous investigation of winter waterbirds.

According to the understanding, in this synchronous survey, 20 monitoring lines and sample points were set up in the area where the distribution of birds in the Yellow River Wetland Reserve was more concentrated, and 3 groups of more than 10 people were arranged to investigate the bird resources in the reserve.

In the process of investigation, the monitoring personnel record the number of bird species and population numbers through professional equipment in the monitoring sample line or sample point, and record the observation time, weather conditions, observation location, longitude and latitude coordinates, altitude, etc. In addition, bird habitat habitats are recorded, whether they are on the surface of rivers, shoals, or farmland, fish ponds, etc.

In the synchronous investigation, 104 giant bustards, national first-level protected animals, and rare birds such as grey cranes, cygnets and white-tailed harriers were observed.

In the future, zhengzhou Yellow River Wetland Nature Reserve will continue to carry out synchronous bird surveys during bird migration and wintering periods, grasp the birds and habitat status, and provide a basic basis for formulating resource conservation management measures and implementing biodiversity conservation.

The Dahe News Yu video reporter learned that the great bustard is a national first-level protected animal, and some of them come to the Yellow River wetland in Henan to overwinter in the autumn and winter, mainly in the Yellow River wetlands in Changyuan, Yuanyang and Zhongmu.

They eat the young leaves and shoots of plants, but also eat young grasses, seeds, and sometimes small insects. They generally choose to rest in crop fields and open grasslands.

According to Song Keming, director of the Great Bustard Conservation Area and Changyuan of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, there are about 1600 bustards in China, and the number is still relatively scarce.

The great bustard is a rare animal, with a high level of protection and an extremely agile temperament. When they move in groups, there will be large bustards who are specially responsible for the sentry, and when they find any danger, they will send a signal to the "big troops" and then quickly flee.

The great bustard likes to move in a wide area, so that the field of view is wide, the danger can be detected as soon as possible, and the sense of self-protection is high.
