Six products from three brands This is the contribution of the Zwickau plant to the Volkswagen Group over a period of 26 months, which was once the production base of the Golf and Passat, and now, the manufacturing mission of the internal combustion engine has been completed and the journey of electrification has begun.
In 2018, the Volkswagen Group decided to transform the Zwickau plant into its first pure electric vehicle production site, investing around 1.2 billion euros in the future. In addition to the Zwickau plant, the Dresden plant has now fully transformed the production of electric vehicles, and the Emden plant is underway. The head of the plant said it expects the Zwickau plant to produce more than 180,000 electric vehicles in 2022.
It is understood that the Volkswagen ID.5 will begin delivery this spring. The PRO version starts at 46,515 euros (about 330,000 yuan) in Germany, has a maximum cruising range of about 500 kilometers, 172 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque, and accelerates by 10.4 seconds from 100 kilometers.
The Pro Performance version is priced at 47,550 euros (about 337,000 yuan), has 201 horsepower, accelerates 8.4 seconds from 100 kilometers, and has the same cruising range as the PRO version.
The most expensive model is the Volkswagen ID.5GTX, which starts at 53,615 euros (about 380,000 yuan), the dual motor drive can generate 295 horsepower, the WLTP has a cruising range of about 480 kilometers, an acceleration time of 6.3 seconds per 100 kilometers, and a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
The Volkswagen ID.5 will be equipped with the largest battery pack in the Volkswagen range, the 77 kWh battery pack, with a maximum charging capacity of 135 kW, which can be charged to 80% in about 29 minutes under fast charging conditions.
The Volkswagen ID.5 has three levels of configuration: Tech, Max, and GTX Max. Panoramic sunroof, LED matrix headlights, 3D-LED taillights, Travel Assist semi-automatic assistance system, electric tailgate, three-zone air conditioning, head-up display, 12-way electric adjustment massage seat are standard.
The Mid-Level Max configuration adds a set of 20-inch "Drammen" alloy wheels, top-of-the-line Sports "Plus" seats, and Sports Package Plus. In addition, the ID.5 Max and GTX Max are equipped with energy-saving heat pumps – saving as much battery power as possible.
The top-of-the-line GTX Max is the second Volkswagen to wear the new GTX badge after the ID.4 GTX. The car has a reduced suspension and upgraded brakes, and buyers can also opt for Volkswagen's dynamic chassis control adaptive shock absorbers.
Exterior changes include a sportier bumper, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a two-tone bodywork. Inside, the GTX features exclusive seat interiors with red contrast stitching, dark blue faux leather door panels, GTX brand sill protection, and the GTX logo on the steering wheel and digital screens.
The Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.4 come from the same MEB platform, and the width, length and wheelbase of both cars are exactly the same. Therefore, ID.5 is also considered a sports coupe version of ID.4. The coupe-style bodywork allows for a slight improvement in aerodynamics, and the drag coefficient of the ID.5 is only 0.26Cd, which is a slight increase in range compared to the ID.4. The id.5's trunk space is also a little larger than the ID.4, with 549 litres, 6 litres more than the ID.4.
