Toshihiro Mibu's astonishing remarks seem to be directed at old rival Toyota. As a clean energy source with zero combustion emissions, hydrogen energy has been sought after by toyota, Honda and Hyundai. In particular, Toyota, in addition to the mirai, a hydrogen fuel cell model used as a guarantee car for the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Japanese car company has also made achievements in hydrogen fuel internal combustion engines. Not only did they unveil the Corolla H2 concept car with a hydrogen-powered engine last year, but they also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans to prove its reliability. In contrast, Honda's only production fuel cell model, CLARITY, has officially discontinued production in the summer of 2021.

Still, Mibe affirmed Honda's achievements in the field of fuel cells (FCVs), which he believes will be the key to Honda's zero carbon emissions. According to the disclosure, Honda will gradually stop production of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040, and then fully switch to the production of pure electric vehicles (BEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). As one of the first car companies in the world to achieve mass production and listing of fuel cell models, Honda will continue to cooperate with GM Group in the future, and the two sides will be committed to reducing the manufacturing cost of hydrogen fuel cell technology and applying it to commercial trucks, hydrogen refueling stations and other products.
