According to CNN reported on the 18th, a jury in Marion County, Tennessee, ruled that cracker barrel company (American chain restaurant and gift shop) must compensate a customer for $9.4 million, because the company provided a cup of liquid filled with detergent for drinking, so there is a fault.

Under Tennessee law on civil damages, there may be a cap on the amount of damages actually awarded.

Attorneys for plaintiff William Cronnon said in an interview with CNN that "the jury awarded $4.3 million in damages in just 30 minutes — one of the fastest judgments we've ever seen — and awarded $5 million in punitive damages after 10 minutes of overtime deliberations." The speed with which this ruling was reached, combined with the amount exceeding our request, illustrates how dangerous the Biscuit Barrel Company's rules are. ”

The Cookie Barrel Company said it was "disappointed" with the ruling. The company's media relations department said in a statement, "While we have great respect for the legal process, we are clearly disappointed by and strongly opposed to the jury's ruling in this case, which involves an unfortunate and isolated incident that took place at one of our stores 8 years ago." ”

Court documents show that in April 2014, Crononon was having lunch at a restaurant in Marion County when he took a sip of what he thought was water, and then he immediately realized it wasn't ice water, but a chemical that caused a burning sensation in his mouth and esophagus. It was later found that what he drank contained Eco-San, a chemical used as a kitchen area cleaner. It is a corrosive chemical that causes permanent and serious bodily harm to cronononon.

The lawyers said Crononon still had symptoms, including oral and esophageal injuries, and would continue to incur medical bills. (Editor: HHJ)
