During the Qing Dynasty, carpets woven of silk and gold and silver threads have been an indispensable decoration in the Forbidden City of Beijing. Only about 300 copies remain, either in museum or private collections.

The Lion MGM Macau has 3 lobbies, including the Art Gallery, which exhibits a collection of 28 royal carpets throughout the year. These include the extremely precious "Five Lions" carpet produced by the Royal Manufacturing Office in Beijing, China (see picture), and the well-preserved Qing Dynasty carpets such as "Nine Days of Dragon Xiang" (see picture) used by the Qianlong Emperor and produced by the Xinjiang Imperial Workshop.

These silk carpets woven with gold, silver and copper threads depict animal motifs such as dragons, phoenixes and lions, and are combined with various floral motifs to convey the supreme royal temperament of the imperial era.
