【Idiom Story】

In the last years of the Qin Dynasty, there were two of the largest forces in the various rebel armies, which were the teams of Liu Bang and Xiang Yu. They had agreed that whoever first captured Xianyang, the capital of the Qin Dynasty, would be king in the Guanzhong area.

As a result, Liu Bang first attacked Xianyang and took control of Hangu Pass. Xiang Yu was very angry because of this. He thinks that I have 400,000 troops and have not yet become kings, and you 100,000 horses are actually kings! So he wanted to find Liu Bang for a decisive battle.

One of Xiang Yu's distant uncles, Xiang Bo, was very good with Liu Bang's adviser Zhang Liang. Hearing this news, he told Zhang Liang overnight and advised him to leave quickly. Zhang Liang did not want to betray Liu Bang, and after Zhang Liang's introduction, Liu Bang warmly received Xiang Bo and married Xiang Bo as a son and daughter. Xiang Bo persuaded Liu Bang to personally explain and apologize to Xiang Yu to avoid the great battle.

The next day, Liu Bang personally went to Hongmen with more than a hundred people to apologize to Xiang Yu. Xiang Yu's adviser Fan Zeng persuaded Xiang Yu to get rid of Liu Bang at the banquet. At the banquet, a group of samurai were ambushed, and it was agreed that Xiang Yu would immediately move as soon as he raised a glass.

At the banquet, Liu Bang had a humble attitude towards Xiang Yu and accompanied him carefully everywhere. That Xiang Yu was a straight man, and he was gradually happy to be coaxed by Liu Bang, and he didn't want to kill him at all. Therefore, there was no response to Fan Zeng's several gestures.

Fan Zeng saw that it was not going according to plan, so he found Xiang Yu's cousin Xiang Zhuang and said, "King Xiang is too benevolent. You quickly went in and borrowed the dancing sword as a name, and took the opportunity to kill Liu Bang. ”

When Xiang Zhuang returned, he toasted at the banquet and asked him to dance his sword. Only to see the sword light flashing, Xiang Zhuang danced closer and closer to Liu Bang. Xiang Bo was worried about the accident and said to Xiang Yu: "Dancing alone, the interest is not high, let me dance with him!" Xiang Bo also drew his sword and danced, secretly using his body to block Liu Bang, so that Xiang Zhuang could not find the opportunity to make a move.

Seeing this, Zhang Liang hurried out to say to Liu Bang's military general Fan Duo: "Now that Xiangzhuang is dancing the sword, his intention is to kill Pei Gong (the original text is 'Xiang Zhuang draws a sword dance, and its intention is often in Pei Gong Ye')) As soon as Fan heard this, he immediately took up his weapon and broke into the banquet.

Under the protection of Zhang Liang and Fan Duo, Liu Bang finally took the opportunity to leave the banquet and return to his military camp safely.

This is the story of the famous "Hongmen Feast" in history. Later, Zhang Liang's saying that "the current Xiangzhuang dancing sword, its meaning is often in Pei Gong" evolved into an idiom of "Xiangzhuang Dancing Sword, intended to be Pei Gong". "Pei" was originally a place name, and Liu Bang had served as an official there, so Pei Gong referred to Liu Bang. This idiom is used as a metaphor for actions or words vaguely directed at a person.
