Hyundai Motor's electric vehicle sales exceeded 160,000 units in 2021, an increase of 44%

According to foreign media reports, in 2021, Hyundai Motor's global sales volume was 3.89 million units, an increase of 3.9% year-on-year. Among them, the wholesale sales of hyundai electric vehicles exceeded 160,000 units, an increase of 44% year-on-year. In addition, despite supply chain issues, the company raised its sales target to sell more than 4.32 million units worldwide by 2022.

In December 2021, Hyundai motor's global sales were about 334,242 units, down 11% year-on-year, but wholesale sales of electric vehicles accelerated to 17,725 units, up 110% year-on-year, accounting for about 5% of the company's total wholesale sales (354,824 units). Among them, sales of Hyundai pure electric vehicles reached a record 14,000 units, an increase of 82% year-on-year; sales of plug-in hybrids were smaller, at 3,463 units, but the year-on-year increase was staggering, nearly 500%. In addition, sales of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were only 388 units, a year-on-year decrease of 16%.

In 2021, Hyundai's wholesale sales of electric vehicles exceeded 160,000 units, an increase of 44% year-on-year, accounting for 4.1% of the company's total wholesale sales. Among them, Hyundai's pure electric vehicle sales reached 120,523 units, an increase of 20% year-on-year; plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 40,843 units, a significant increase of 251%. In addition, Hyundai hydrogen fuel cell vehicles sold 9,620 units, up 42% year-on-year.

2021 was a year of better sales of hyundai electric vehicles, though this was only the company's attempt to expand its lineup of E-GMP models. On the other hand, hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell vehicle sales in 2021 will not even exceed 10,000.

In 2021, hyundai Ioiq 5 quickly became the company's annual sales champion of electric models with more than 65,000 units sold. Of these, the Hyundai Ioiq 5 sold 22,671 units in South Korea, 19,219 in Western Europe and 153 in the United States. Last December, the Hyundai Ioiq 5 set a sales record of 9,539 units. Hyundai Kona electric vehicles also performed well in 2021, with more than 43,000 units.

Kia Motors sold nearly 30,000 EV6s and GeniseyS GV60s sold more than 1,000 units. In 2021 (starting In March 2021), sales of E-GMP models will be close to 100,000 units.

Sales of the HYUNDAI hydrogen fuel cell model NEXO in 2021 were 9,620 units, compared to 388 units in December last year. NEXO's sales are mainly from the Korean market, with 296 units in December and 8,502 units in 2021.

Sales of the Geniseys G80 are relatively small, with 231 units in December and 1,384 units in 2021. Sales of the Geniseys GV60 increased to 737 units in December and 1,190 units in 2021.
