On January 25, we learned from Stellantis that the group's new car, Tonale, will debut at 10:00 Beijing time on February 8. According to the official teaser, the center of the picture is the outline of Tonale's taillight strip, and Alfa Romeo has also combined its commonly used ELECTROCardi elements in recent years with it. La Metamorfosi is a negative Italian term for the biological term "metamorphosis", representing the beginning of Alfa Romeo's transformation for the electrification of all its models in 2027. It is reported that Alfa Romeo's first electric car will arrive in 2024, probably a sub-compact crossover.

Tonale's concept car was released in 2019. In terms of size, it's positioned as a compact SUV, and the platform is likely to be shared with Jeep Liberty and Guiders, with direct competitors being mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40. Based on the road test photos we have obtained so far, the production version of tonale is basically the same as the concept car. The car's side adopts a similar design language to that of the Stelvio, with headlights reminiscent of Alfa Romeo's legendary model SZ, while the B-pillar-to-C-pillar transition and side lines are reminiscent of Brera and the 2uettottanta Spider concept car created by Pinning Farina in 2015. Since the spy photo only captures the appearance, we have not been able to confirm whether the interior design will be consistent with the concept car with the embedded central control LCD screen.

Production of Alfa Romeo Tonale was originally scheduled to begin in 2019, but ceo Jean-Philippe Imparato postponed production of Tonale until after 2021 out of concerns about powertrain performance. According to rumors, the car will feature the same hybrid system as the 2022 Jeep Guide 4xe, which is exclusively for Europe. The 1.3-litre in-line four-cylinder engine transmits power through a 6-speed automatic transmission to the front axle, while the rear axle is powered by an 11.4 kWh battery pack and electric motor. The total output of this powertrain can reach about 240 horsepower. In addition to this, the 280-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will also appear on the Tonale as an optional power.
