Lin Fengfeng (1939-2017) was an outstanding and far-reaching Chinese painter and art educator in modern Lingnan. As one of the first batch of Chinese landscape painting painters trained by the education system of the New China Academy of Art, he was personally taught by Guan Shanyue and Li Xiongcai of the Lingnan School, and at the same time, he was able to absorb other genres of art under the college system and form his own independent thinking.

While inheriting the realistic tradition and reform and innovation of the Lingnan School, it also integrates the new concepts and new forms of literati brush and ink and modern art language in modern times, forming a distinct personal style. His artistic achievements represent a new understanding of modern Chinese landscape painting since China's reform and opening up, starting from the spirit of traditional landscape painting.

The exhibition exhibits 85 works by Lin Fengfeng as a new topic of "Guan Shanyue and 20th Century Art Research" at Guan Shanyue Art Museum, based on the museum's newly collected Chinese paintings of Lin Fengguo, and explores Lin Fengfeng's exploration of the language of Lingnan landscape painting in the 1960s and 1980s.

The exhibition revolves around Lin's exploration process, divided into four major sections: "From college to mountain village", "Traveling thousands of miles", "between lakes and mountains" and "Where is the family mountain", through a large number of real photos and works, documents, manuscripts, especially the painter's tempering of the same theme and the change from real scene to painting to present the painter's creative process and exploration process.

In the "From College to Mountain Village" section, Lin Fengfeng's early works are displayed. In 1959, Lin Fengfeng left his hometown of Chaozhou and was admitted to the Chinese Painting Department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, becoming one of the first undergraduates majoring in landscape painting. In 1964, Lin Fengfeng graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and was assigned to work in Huaiji, a mountainous area in northern Guangdong. Until 1972, by chance, he was sent to Guangzhou to participate in the "National Fine Arts Exhibition to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Chairman Mao's Speech at the Yan'an Literary and Art Forum", and the two works "Shigu Xintian" and "Commune Holiday" were born at this creation.

Lin Fengfeng's works from the guangzhou academy of fine arts to the Huaiji period can be seen from the transformation of his Lingnan school style language after experiencing the accumulation of long-term mountain life, and since then, the tone of mountain life has always accompanied his future artistic exploration, becoming the source of his inspection of what he has learned, explored and thought, and expressed his feelings.

Wang Huangsheng, director of the CAFA Art Museum, commented: "As a southern painter, you should confidently and sincerely discover the value of the south, the beauty of the mountains and rivers in the south, the southern mood, and the cultural spirit of the south, and create the painting styles of southern painters with cultural character." This is precisely the contemporary value suggested by Lin Feng's traditional landscape paintings. ”
