Dang Zhen was born in 1973 in Jinan, Shandong Province. He graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1996 and received a master's degree from Tian Liming Studio of the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2008. He is currently an associate professor at Capital Normal University and a distinguished professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Henan University.

The works are mainly sketching documentary works collected throughout the country in recent years, the picture is light, the form is more diverse, and the works that generate nostalgia bring unpredictable and wonderful experiences to the creation, and also draw on the expression methods of Western abstraction, post-impressionism and printmaking. It is the precipitation and new expression of my past creations.

The pursuit of landscape paintings in the Song Dynasty is the state I have always been. I personally believe that the high spiritual fit between man and nature reflected in the landscape paintings of the Song Dynasty is the peak of the entire history of ancient painting. After the literati painting of the Yuan Dynasty, the self-confidence of people and the charm of the painting language itself were highlighted, and the tradition of Song painting was gradually changed. This trend of development and change, even magnified by later followers, became the supreme orthodoxy of Chinese painting. I have a different attitude towards this. I think that the realistic tendency of Song painting to "live and travel" is a more humble expression, or an expression of the essence with nature as the core. The trees and stones in the Song paintings put the spirituality of nature in the first place, and the echoes of people's vision and heart are all to express the sublimity of nature.

In many of Dang Zhen's works in recent years, the language method of Western painting has been cleverly applied to traditional Chinese ink painting. In his depictions of figures placed in a desolate background, he sometimes replaces the line drawings in traditional figure paintings with solid shapes. In some ink painting works with the theme of "landscape painting", Dang Zhen uses precise space, perspective, chiaroscuro, volume and other Western painting techniques to "create the environment according to the heart", and adopts traditional Chinese ink painting techniques such as boneless method and fusion dyeing method, and uses delicate writing brushes to create details of the picture.
