Sun Shiqian, mecha artist, guest teacher at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is from Dalian, so his studio has also set up a home by the sea. The car drove to a fork in the road, on one side of which placed a mech about a meter high, and needless to say, his studio was almost there. Sun Shiqian's studio consists of three parts, one part is the office area; the other part is the factory building, where the dismantling and welding of the machinery are completed; and the other part is the showroom, which is filled with the mecha works he has made in the past. In his office, there was a cabinet with a height of more than three meters high and width for one person, filled with various deformation toys, and several unopened couriers were piled on the floor, which he introduced as the deformation toys he bought. I'm sure any little boy who loves morphing toys wouldn't get bored with a week in his studio.
"Iron Man, who has been watched hundreds of times in total, will have a desire to be stronger, to protect their families, to save the planet. Mecha is a man's romance, a desire for power", talking about mecha, Sun Shi's first two eyes lit up.
The obsession with mechs dates back to his childhood. When he was four years old, he saw the G1 version of the Transformers animation, and the cool animation scenes made Sun Shiqian deeply fascinated by the mecha. However, at that time, the price of the genuine Transformer physical toy was equivalent to his father's salary for one month, so he found cardboard, wooden blocks and other materials to make a Transformer model by himself. It was also from then on that the art of mecha planted a small seed in his heart.
In 2003, Sun Shiqian was admitted to the Central Academy of Fine Arts. After graduation, he worked in an architectural design and research institute. Approaching the age of establishment, he chose to start a business in the field of robot art that he has always loved. After several years of hard work, he led the team to make a lot of achievements in the field of robot art: he produced the world's largest SONIC statue for the Japanese SEGA Group; designed the first hand-made and mass-produced for the super popular online self-media program "Riot Event" under the Innovation Factory, and achieved good social response.
Before the release of Transformers 4 in China in 2014, Sun Shiqian's team was commissioned by the official tour to produce a 1:1 scale of 9-meter-high Optimus Prime and a 7-meter tall wasp, which stood in front of the Qianmen Arrow Tower in Beijing. For several months, he has been thinking that Europe and the United States have Transformers, Japan has Gundam and EVA, and China does not really have a mecha IP that goes abroad. "That's when I realized that only the original belongs to me." Sun Shiqian set a goal for himself, that is, to be China's own mecha IP.
As a result, Sun Shiqian, as the first artist to propose the concept of "Zodiac Mecha", has created the 12 Zodiac Mech Series and the Great Wall Dragon Mecha. "Every Chinese has a zodiac sign, and its story has a certain extensibility. I hope that through the combination of technology and artistic language, I can make the zodiac signs that belong to this era. In 2015, Sun Shiqian completed the first original mecha with the theme of the Chinese zodiac , a dragon-shaped alloy mecha robot "Chenlong Rise", which is the world's first deformable large-scale all-metal sculpture with a number of invention patents.
"The Great Wall is like a dragon", the most representative "dragon" in traditional Chinese culture, which mobilized many of Sun Shiqian's imaginations and promoted his further thinking on the National Wind Mech. He and his university classmate Fan Erpu, associate professor of the Department of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, began research and production in 2015, spending 7 years to complete the most representative work of his National Style Mecha - "Great Wall Dragon · Rise", this dragon is made of metal, weighs about 9 tons, is composed of more than 1200 parts, with a total length of 19.21 meters and a deformation height of up to 7.1 meters, as one of the works representing the Centenary of the Founding of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, commemorating the founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1, 1921.
In 2021, after years of accumulation, Sun Shiqian officially launched the "China Mecha Project" series of works, the first mecha is "Super Dasheng", with a total height of nearly 12.6 meters and a weight of about 50 tons. Super Sage is an upgrade of Shen Monkey Great Sage in the pre-Sun Zodiac mecha series. "Super Grand Sage" was installed on September 16, 2021 in the Great Dream City in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and is far away from the Japanese Gundam mech in Shanghai. "In 2020, a Japanese company built a 1:1 18-meter Gundam in Shanghai, and I was particularly happy as a Gundam fan, but then they proposed a Gundam China plan, and wanted to put 1:1 Gundam mechs in Cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, I felt a little regretful, even if we said that we could do a little Chinese mecha to communicate with it", it can be said that the proposal of the Chinese mecha plan is not unrelated to the Gundam China plan.
"Let the world see China's own mech", Sun Shiqian has always had such a sense of mission, "as the head studio of China's mecha, if we don't do it, it will be more difficult for others to do it." The Mechs of the United States and Japan have already fought in September 2017, and many netizens say that it is like an excavator fight, but I think this does not prevent them from becoming a great existence in the future. Sun Shiqian hoped that the Sun Wukong mech could make the first footprint of the Chinese mech in the world.
