Chizhou has a long history and far-reaching cultural context, which has cultivated a splendid regional culture and formed a rich and colorful intangible cultural heritage. There are 63 municipal intangible cultural heritage projects in Chizhou (including 4 national intangible cultural heritage and 27 provincial intangible cultural heritage), covering folk literature, traditional music, traditional dance, traditional drama, traditional sports, amusement and acrobatics, traditional art, traditional skills and folklore.
The intangible cultural heritage of Chizhou is the foundation and carrier of the historical and cultural development of our city, truly recording and reflecting the unique lifestyle, moral concepts, aesthetic tastes and cultural creativity of the ancestors who lived in this hot land in the era of agricultural civilization.

傩, conceived in the Neolithic period, sprouted in the Xia Shang, formed in the Zhou, standardized in the "li". Derived from primitive expulsion spells and witchcraft, rooted in the fertile land of primitive cultures worshiped by nature, totems, ancestors and ghosts.
Chizhou puppet opera is an ancient folk art form with the "society" as the unit, the "clan" as the carrier, the purpose of driving away evil spirits and blessings, and the characteristics of "mask performance", which was once spread in Guichi, Dongzhi, Qingyang and Shitai counties (districts) in the foothills of Jiuhua Mountain. At present, it is mainly concentrated in the yao, Liu, Zhang, Tang, Ke, Jin, Cao, Wang, Han, Du, Wu, Xie, Shu and other dozens of large surname families in Meijie, Tangxi, Dunshang and Lishan townships (streets) in Guichi District of guichi city, or the sacrificial circles (i.e., society) established by different families due to geographical and marital relations.
Chizhou Puppet Drama (also known as Howling God Drama) has distinct regional characteristics, and there are no professional classes and professional artists. Compared with the puppet culture in other regions, Chizhou puppet opera not only has a complete story of puppetry, but also has expressions such as puppet ceremony and puppet dance.

At present, the main puppet plays performed by various clans are "Meng JiangNu", "Liu Wenlong", "Hefanji", and "Zhang Wenxuan". Chizhou puppet opera is one of the oldest and most complete ancient operas in China, and has the reputation of "living fossils of opera". Its rich connotation provides the academic community with high academic research value in humanities, drama, religion, fine arts, history, archaeology and folklore.
