The mask is either realistic or abstract, and the facial expression is exquisite, symbolizing the different characters of the tangtang opera.
"The exhibits of the carving of the mask are exhibited here, and visitors can visit here and even buy the mask." Zhou Xianlu, the first secretary of Changzheng Village in Fengxiangxi Town, took us to see and introduce.
The masks on display
Dejiang Tang Tang Opera, also known as Wu Opera and Wu Tan Opera, is an ancient ethnic folk customs and cultural activity, which originated from the Exorcism activities of the Fang Xiang clan during the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. "The world's puppet opera is in China, the Chinese puppet opera is in Guizhou, and the Guizhou puppet opera is in Dejiang."
When performing a puppet show, wear a mask to perform. In puppetry, masks are symbols of the gods. There are more than 50 masked figures, of which the commonly used whole hall is 24 sides and the half hall is 12 faces. According to the personality characteristics of the characters, they can be divided into four categories: mighty and fierce, dignified and beautiful, charitable and peaceful, and ugly and witty.
The masks that have not yet been colored are drying
Guizhou Province, the sixth generation of ancestors of the mask carving Wang Guohua, inherits the handicrafts of the ancestors, and has been carving the mask for nearly 40 years. His works are bold, exaggerated, vivid and dexterous, and his artistic temperament is unique.
At the age of 16, under the guidance of his father, Wang Guohua became fascinated by puppet performances and mask carving, and began to study the folk handicrafts of mask carving.
In recent years, his mask has been favored by the market, not only domestic orders continue, but also exported to Japan, France, Belgium and other countries, the supply exceeds demand.
Carving has become a well-known industry. In 2012, Wang Guohua registered and established Dejiang County Kingdom Huatuo Mask Carving Co., Ltd., he cared about the people in his hometown and led the villagers to carve the mask together.
"More than 20 villagers in the surrounding area helped me cut wood and do some basic carving work. I'll check the look of the mask. "The villagers learned from Wang Guohua and had a skill. While refining their craft, their income has also increased. "A person can polish 5 masks a day, and he has an income of more than 100 yuan per day." Wang Guohua told us.
