According to the data of the Association, the retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 475,000 units in December, an increase of 129% year-on-year and 25% month-on-month, and the annual retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 2.989 million units, an increase of 169% year-on-year;
Judging from the sales volume in each month of 2021, the growth momentum of new energy vehicle sales is very strong, and the growth level in each month of the year is more than double that of the same period last year. Against this backdrop, the HKR will raise its sales forecast for new energy passenger vehicles in 2022 to 5.5 million units.
From the perspective of company sales, BYD topped the list with an absolute advantage of 584,000 vehicles, Shangtong Wuling ranked second with 430,000 vehicles, and Tesla's sales in the Chinese market were 320,000 vehicles, ranking third. Great Wall Motor, GAC Aegean and SAIC Motor all sold more than 100,000 passenger cars. Xiaopeng, Chery, Weilai, and Ideal are all in the range of 90,000-100,000 vehicles, and the difference is not big. Although FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen are behind in terms of sales separately, if combined, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in the Chinese market in 2021 has reached 131,000 units, which is the fifth level in the whole market.
Among the specific models, Hongguang MINIEV ranked first with annual sales of 395,000 units; Tesla Model Y replaced the Model 3 as the main model in the Chinese market, ranking second and third with data of 169,000 units and 151,000 units, respectively; BYD Qin Plus DMi and Ideal One, two plug-in hybrid models, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively; BYD Han EV sales in recent months are also rising. With annual sales of 87,000 units, it ranked sixth.
In the sales ranking of plug-in hybrid models, BYD won four of the top five seats, and BYD has an absolute advantage in this segment, and the ideal one ranks second in the sales volume of plug-in hybrid models with a level of 90,000 vehicles.
BYD's annual car sales were 730,000 vehicles, of which 594,000 were new energy vehicles, accounting for 81% of new energy vehicle sales throughout the year; from the sales volume of recent months, BYD has basically achieved full electrification, and the sales of new energy vehicles in December accounted for 95%; at present, BYD has achieved pure electric and plug-in hybrid two-legged walking, and the sales proportion of its plug-in hybrid models has increased from 27% at the beginning of the year to 48% at the end of the year. And in recent months, the proportion of sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid models has been basically flat.
Tesla's Shanghai factory has maintained the trend of giving priority to the supply of export demand at the beginning of the quarter and giving priority to ensuring domestic demand at the end of the quarter, exporting 152,000 vehicles throughout the year.
In 2021, Tesla's Shanghai factory sold 473,000 new vehicles, of which model 3 sold 273,000 units and model Y sold 200,000 units. Judging from Tesla's wholesale and retail sales in December, the maximum annual production capacity of Tesla's Shanghai factory has reached 850,000 vehicles.
