At the previous CES 2022 conference, Chrysler showed off its electric concept car Airflow, showing the future direction of its electric vehicles. And Stellantis (Chrysler's parent company) has pledged to build its first electric car in 2025 and become an all-electric vehicle manufacturer in 2028.
Following the unveiling of the Airflow concept, Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell revealed details about the brand's lineup of future electric vehicles. First, Feuell said, "for sure," the brand will offer more products in 2028 than its today's 300, Pacifica and fleet-only Voyager.
However, Feuell said the Airflow concept car will not go into production. She wasn't ready to use The Airflow name either. However, she revealed that Chrysler's first mass-produced electric car will borrow a lot of the styling and technology of the Airflow concept car.
Chrysler Electric Vehicles, scheduled to debut in 2025, will be built on STLA's massive platform, as will all Chrysler's upcoming products. After the Airflow-like production car arrives, Chrysler will follow up with "one or two" electric SUVs. While Feuell didn't elaborate, one of the new cars is likely to be a full-size three-row SUV, as an Airflow-like vehicle will be a mid-size electric crossover with two rows of seats. Nor should a three-row mid-size model be excluded.
But what about the all-electric Chrysler minivan? Feuell said that while the boom in SUVs has eclipsed minivans, minivans are still important to the brand and will withstand the transformation of electric vehicles. And Feuell would like to see a "whole new perspective" on minivans, a vehicle that works for and appeals to any type of home, not just the outdated "soccer mom" stereotype.
Sadly, she doesn't have the release date information for the next minivan, but since Pacifica is still in its fifth year, a successor could come after Chrysler's planned electric SUV.
But the future may not be as favorable to the 300 sedan; when asked directly, Feuell did not confirm or deny the next generation of the 300. The current model will be retired in 2024 along with its platform siblings, the Dodge Charger and Challenger. But while dodge models will be replaced by new EV muscle cars in 2024 (also based on the STLA mega platform), the 300 may not have a successor.
